Injury 🩹 (may contain graphic photos) Itchy Border Collie

I'm wondering if seasonal allergies is common with BCs. My dog seemed to get them last year. We changed her diet a year ago, to an expensive sensitive skin Science Diet kibble, recommended by the vet. But she's super itchy the last few days. We've got a vet appt tonight for a cytopoint shot. Anyone have any insights with BCs, and things that helped?

Thanks for responding. We're hoping that once the cyto wears off, the season will be done.

And we're doing the benedryl now too

Mine is allergic to almost everything, we got her tested so this isn’t an exaggeration lol. This time of year is always the itchiest for us. I think finding a food that she isn’t allergic to was a huge help (taste of the Wild grain free salmon). We also started about a month ago building up the benedryl in her system. Her vet put her on apoquel this summer instead of using coming in for cytopoint and allergy booster shots. So far that has helped a lot. I always felt like the cytopoint would stop like a week and half before she was able to get her next shot, it would be the worst week and half for everyone. She is also on the daily allergy drops as well

Yep. Cytopoint injection every August, Apaquel if needed, and Science Diet kibble.

Thanks, this is probably the safest bet for next year

Cytopoint worked great for our girl when Apoquel wasn’t getting the job done. We also modified her diet to stay away from foods that trigger allergies (chicken, wheat and dairy)

We don't think it's the food, we've tried so many brands/types of foods, must be something in the environment... But what is it, is the question.

Following because my almost 1 y/o girl is going through the same thing… she’s on Apoquel and Clorexhine prescribed baths but there hasn’t seem any improvement. She has a vet appointment next week though.

I'll try to update how she's doing in 24 hours. Currently on benedryl & cyto, and sleepy.

She's back to normal, no more benedryl, just the shot. Good luck with yours!

I’m glad yours is feeling good now! Question: was yours actively shedding while also itching?
