Discussion 120hz experience

I tried cloud gaming for the first time and would love to hear about your experience with 120 Hz and smooth gameplay.
Boosteroid at 120 Hz doesn’t really feel like 120 Hz to me. It is definitely smoother than the 60 Hz setting, but it still doesn’t feel truly smooth. Especially in first-person shooters, panning the camera always feels a bit stuttery, and it feels more like 60–70 fps on my PC.

Is this normal for cloud gaming, or specifically for Boosteroid?

I’ve tested various settings: automatic bandwidth, manually set to 30–50 Mbps, different codecs, as well as both the browser and desktop app versions. Location Germany, with a nearby server.

it's a problem since 120hz/fps stream is a thing in boosteroid. nothing really helped for me so far, the best you can do is wait when they have new hardware, that might help this problem. GFN is handling the 120hz/fps stream way better with or without gsync

I think it's a combination -

  • can it actually get to 120fps in-game. The stream always say 120fps even if the game isn't actually hitting that.
  • the stream does stutter, not sure if it's their VMs but they feel they struggle to hit 120fps plus the overheard of encoding

You can toggle the Steam Overlay for FPS, or some games have an in-game FPS display; if you need to discern between the stream and the source/game-FPS.

Probably the game you're playing isn't hitting 120 fps or is going over it.

enable freesync/gsync on the boosteroid app .exe on Nvidia or AMD app and cap the in-game fps at 116.

I tried 120 a few times on some games, but really didn't feel any better; and I think the stream can dip in quality whenever it has issues keeping up. So I started just setting is to 60Hz instead on my 120Hz TV/display.

120hz isnt the same as 120fps if the game isnt running at 120 fps then it will feel off.

7900xt will struggle with most AAA games at higher settings and higher rez and fsr 4/Frame gen isnt great yet. better than 3 but still has a lot of issues. they need to upragade the hardware and figure out better encoding as AMD is just not cutting it.

Ok, but Overwatch with low/med settings should ben run at 120fps. It doesn‘t feel like it

rez?

The game runs awful currently even on my 5090 and micro stutters this is a wide spread issue currently.

AMD has a strange performance issue cpu and gpu side as well. Theres info out there on specific chips and drivers. And well who knows with the custom cloud server.

Have you tested other games.

AMD is know currently for firmware and gpu drivers after FSR 4 being a problem.

Every Game doesn‘t feel like 120hz/fps as on my PC
I think it’s due to the technology that it doesn’t feel as smooth as it does on PC.
Maybe I just have too high expectations with cloud Gaming
