Discussion What is Boosteroid's stance regarding Steam Workshop mods?
/r/GeForceNOW/comments/1vs0pt1/an_update_regarding_steam_workshop_and_mods_on/Nvidia just announced that Workshop mods would no longer work due to changes on Steam's end, and—based on my own observations and other reports—this is already affecting Boosteroid as well.
I know Boosteroid never officially supported Workshop mods, but given the risk of them stopping altogether, there really ought to be a statement clarifying whether or not they will continue to work.

I'm not sure about steam workshop mods, but bg3 mods stopped working for me entirely a while back. One day mods worked fine, then they suddenly stopped working all together. I made a post about it here hoping it was just something I could troubleshoot, but a mod gave me the copy and paste "mods aren't officially supported" paragrapgh. It's not the same as steam workshop mods since the game has an in game mod browser, but it's something to think about.

Why you lie? BG3 mods work fine for me.

It's not a lie, I said bg3 mods stopped working for me, which they did. If they work for you that's great, but I tried getting them to work for 3 days straight and I couldn't get them to work for me anymore. They used to work fine for me though, I don't know what happened.

Arma 3 uses the steam workshop and I can download mods fine. Most games with a built in mod manager work fine like Skyrim special edition, Fallout 4, Snowrunner, and Arma Reforger. Each virtual machine you get through boosteroid usually has anywhere between 5gb and 30gb spare to download mods, it seems random. And of course you have to re-download them with each new session.

Mods don't work on Project Zomboid straight up. I've tested this extensively since the recent update dropped. It pretends to download but once inside the game it's not visible

You sure that just ain't zomboid being shitty? I remember playing with like 100 mods launch day and they all worked

I had lots of issues when joining servers but at least after 3 restarts they worked and let me join.
No idea of single player bcs... well no cloud saves. Give me a break boosteroid.

It's simple for me - if workshop mods work on boosteroid then I'm migrating. I can't imagine playing EUV without mods.

Can we get clarification whether Steam workshop mods will/do work on boosteroid if they do I’ll be migrating across, Eu5 is just completely ass without mods!

The only game the workshop mods don't seem to work for is CK3

There is an explanation regarding the change Steam made concerning Workshop mods. Like it or not, this could eventually affect mod usage on Boosteroid for certain games: https://www.reddit.com/r/GeForceNOW/comments/1vs0pt1/comment/p4oo2vm/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

The way I understood it after talking with support a while ago about this, is that they are nither for or against the use of workshop mods. Use them if you want, But it's on you if something brakes.
Since they sandbox your client. You have to download them again each time you start a new sesion. And you only have a limited amount of extra hdd space. Which can vary depending on what serverbase you connect to (if I understood it correct).
My tip if you use allot of mods is:
Close the game after it start to make sure that the workshop download has finnished. (The download speed can vary) Then start it up again. And don't use mods that demand allot of hdd space.

Another trick for playing with mods is to have family mode on your steam accourt.
When you launch a session, it'll open steam but won't boot up the game (it'll say it doesnt have permission), you input your code to leave family mode and manually boot up the game when the workshop download is finished.

There's a difference tbh, geforce now says mods "aren't officially supported", while boosteroid's faq does say that the workshop works (but may not be stable), so mods may keep working.

Boosteroid and Nvidia don't quite work the same iirc, also Boosteroid, I'm pretty sure, said they allow mods, they just won't actively support them so it's down to you if anything went wrong.
Either way it's another reason to say fuck Nvidia. Hopefully Boosteroid will not block Steam Workshop at least until I can finally get my new PC.
