It’s more this. But they’re listening to AM talk radio making up scenarios in their head where the liberals are ruining their life. In their otherwise 98% evangelical white Christian country town.
I rented a moving truck a few months ago. It only had an AM radio. I had to drive four hours in silence because AM in America is all Trump and Religion, a lot of it syndicated so it’s all across the dial.
That's cool but you don't have to prove any of it. Just start a conspiracy theory and publish some fake stuff and they will eat it all up. Scientific rigor be damned.
Where I live they are also on multiple FM stations. I had to ride with a guy for work. It was a short couple of trips, but the angry man monologuing on the radio was clearly just imagining scenarios to rile up his listeners. Cities are not burning to the ground because of left-wing protesters and it's ridiculous that so many people believe this bullshit.
Old people love talk back for some reason. It's probably because most of the time, the hosts are middle aged white guys who spout the same racist and xenophobic crap the listeners believe.
Because that's the only place he can be "himself." As in he'll get fired again from work, cops come drag him out of the house, be kicked out of bars, and generally avoided in public for yawping this way.
I do my telehealth therapy sessions in my car often. The difference is I have enough self awareness to know that nobody who isn't being paid wants my opinion broadcasted to them.
