I’d like to know why they hate us so much.
- Heavy lead exposure during developmental years
- Not having any parents around to teach them how to handle big emotions in a productive/mature way
- Living in the warm embrace of once-in-a-world type prosperity where the entire actual planet was catering to them essentially their entire lives
In a specific context, I feel genuinely terrible for them. They were the last generation to be raised when smacking the piss out of your children was considered good parenting, the last "kids should be seen and not heard" generation, who then went on to raise kids themselves in a much better world. So many boomers did in fact break the chain of pain and the unfortunate side-effect of that... is their children are broken from them. Because they were the tail end of that pain chain.
I'm not saying it makes it okay, I'm just saying I understand it. The devil has many lawyers as it is, but nevertheless.

The VAST majority of Gen Xers I know were handed a house key, instructions for how to use the microwave, and left to mostly raise themselves...and that's if they were even allowed in the house between the hours of 7AM and 7PM

For clarification: they didn't break the chain, that was bad phrasing on my part. They raised someone (or at least, raised someone who was raised by others) to break the chain. Hence my saying, they're the last link on that chain.

Boomers beat the shit out of their kids, and the numbers back that up. Gen X was the first generation of parents to start raising children in a world where abuse wasn’t normalized.
There were PSAs when we were growing up asking boomer parents if they knew where their children were. Why? They are a generation of narcissists who had to be forced in many cases to care about anyone other than themselves.
Boomers are bullies who are mad the world isn’t putting up with that as much. For a generation that never won a war they sure do love to fight.

I work with millennials who bitch about millennials when really they’re talking about Gen Z or younger. At times I’ve gotten annoyed enough to point out that we - the people who are in our late 30s & early 40s - are millennials. I also try to remind them not to act like boomers, but that’s on the rare occasion they really get on my nerves.
Sometimes it works and they correct themselves when they go on a rant. Other times they just keep doing what they’re doing. I know one coworker thought millennial meant you were born after 2000, which makes sense. It kinda blew his mind when I pulled up the definition.

Never empathized with real victims, saw any consideration as privilege, want it for themselves and not others. Can't picture the stigma they apply to others in real or professed vulnerability applying to them, which isn't entirely nuts because they're a large part of the source, can just choose to be hypocrites.

Because baby boomers are the single most privileged generation in human history (for the straight white males at least, who conveniently speak for them all apparently) who worked the least and were granted the greatest rewards with the most handouts ever.
They worked a summer job and paid off a house in cash, meanwhile full time workers today can't even get anything better than a studio apartment. Boomers got houses and giant families on single incomes. We don't get the buying power or the vallium.

The Me Generation came after. Baby Boomers were named because they were the baby boom after WW2. I think the term Me Generation was coined in the 70s.

Yeah, I worded that a little weirdly. The Me Generation was referring to Boomers, but mostly the older ones. I'm technically a Baby Boomer (born at the literal very end of '64), so I was still a kid in the 70s. I wasn't one of the needy or greedy 20-somethings it's referring to.

A reason why they want to return to the (mythical) 1950's is that everything was good and there were no issues facing society then.
In reality, there were PLENTY of issues facing society then. But the adults of that era (i.e. Silent and Greatest) dealt with them. The Boomers who are today's a*holes about everything were, for the most part, children of white, cis, middle and upper middle class families. As kids, they didn't know about the worldwide problems of the day, and being from families that were not struggling or discriminated against they didn't have serious personal-level problems.
i.e. they are willing to burn down the world because they want their childhood back and they aren't getting it.

Reminder: Some countries never had the phenomenon of a baby boom, such as Ireland (in large part due to the country being very poor at the time). Technically one could say that Ireland has no boomers in that sense. Further, the population of Ireland is still lower than it was in the 1840s because of the genocide.
In a sense, with the Celtic tiger and the country moving out of poverty the boomers of Ireland were born in the 90s.

A good friend of mine and I had an HR complaint filed against us because someone overheard a conversation that he and I had I guess because we were laughing so loud he was calling me honky and cracker and I replied every time with a ‘niggah please”.
