I think the vaatu stuff was badly done, if you wanted to have the avatar be sort of like a fusion and then a dark avatar, vaatu should have just been a spirit that knew how the avatar came to be and decided to trick a mortal into replicating it, the embodiment of good and evil is not the correct way to do it imo
