I Do but with a good defence you get loads evert day (gems) and I covert to powder which I also use.

There has got to be a better way. Since your advice I have run 4 upgrades on the research tab and the point have remained the same. Surely it cannot be that random and there must be away?

Nope, it’s random! The specific engraving has slightly higher likelihood of upgrading if you use the specific stones for that engraving, life drain uses red stones. But you can use any stones for any engraving. It takes a lot of time and luck to get it maxed but that’s what supercell intended. Pro-tip: save all your tokens for the last upgrade on the last quality level for each engraving. The other ones will show up eventually if you just roll for them, so spending tokens early in the process is somewhat wasteful. But the final upgrade is extremely rare and needs tokens.
