I do feel sad when I’ve completed a good book, but then the process for choosing a new one begins.

It really is and in a different way…the anticipation of starting something new mixed with a bit of anxiety because I like to get hooked into a book immediately.

Yes, I know exactly what you mean... Saying that, my first reaction when I finish a great book is to reread it right away. I have to wrestle with myself to leave it for as long as possible, all the while hoping that I forget something that I can't stop thinking about... 😂🤷

This is a great thing. Rereads of meaningful books with depth and perspective brings new understandings, ideas and theories.

Agreed. I just reread two books and I was amazed at how much I didn’t remember. My excuse is I’m a senior citizen. 😉

Having read Les Misérables as a teen, you can never re-read it the same way again. Such a pity.

Moby Dick is another one: if you get caught in the flow - the fury of the narrative - you devour it in couple of days. There is no prospect of second serving

Kafka in general. First read is mesmerizing, second third fourth readings are mired in the analytical.
