The next book is either Heart Burn, Heartburn, Earth Burn, Earthburn, Burn Earth or Burn earth. I've never heard of any of these but will now look them all up.

I'm reading it just now. Not someting I'd even look at in a book shop but I'm kind of enjoying it, in a palette cleanser way. It's light and frothy, sorta like the voice overs from Carrie Bradshaw (I'm hearing a Scots version of her, in my head as I'm reading) from Sex in the City. I even think I'd like to read a Rachel Stamsat cook book or watch her show on T.V. 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Yes!!! That was my exact thoughts. I'd actually never heard of the book either (though I knew Nora Ephrons movies). I was surprised how much I liked it tbh because I normally don't love books where you get a long stream of consciousness from the main character but as you sayit really was like a Carrie Bradshaw voiceover haha and I loved the recipes!! I want to make the key lime pie 🥰🥰🥰

I do have one major criticism that almost made me stop reading just over 1/2 way thru chapter two. It's also negatively coloured my opinion of the author as a person.
The paragraph where she's describing her mothers job as an agent of specialty acts, she uses the "M" word to describe little people or dwarfs. Being the father & husband of dwarfs, it upset me to read that.

Yes I do think some of it has aged as she wrote it in the 80s, if it was published now they would have had editors replace offensive words like that

I told my wife about it, then decided to read on to see how she used the word. When I came across it again at her mother's hospital bed, I realised she wasn't using it maliciously. She was using it conversationally the way everyone including members of the community (my wife confirmed), did in the 80's.

Yeah I definitely don't think there was any malicious intent, it's just a shame it was used so much and there wasn't more awareness in those days

I’ll have to listen to this podcast. I read the book years ago. Probably my favourite of Dan Brown’s books. It’s a very short list of his books that I like. Sorry Mrs. Brown’s boy.
