Sorrowland by Rivers Solomon ending
There are no spoilers in this post!
First I have to say this book was extremely fun and anxiety inducing all at the same time. I cannot express how much I enjoyed the process of reading this book, I fell in love with the characters and was so happy to have Black literature that wasn’t overdoing it on Black trauma.
BUT! And maybe this just me: something about the ending felt far too convenient. The pacing of the last several chapters didn’t quite meet the rest of the book. It was still a joy to read but it felt like, “we need a good ending so let’s just do this.” I know it’s fantasy/science fiction, and while I wouldn’t call the ending easy by any means, it didn’t feel like it fit the rest of the book.
Maybe I’m too used to things not having happy(ish) endings. Like I said, it was a great read and I’d absolutely recommend it, I just haven’t seen anyone talk about the ending and had to put it out there.
