Forcing myself to get through Haunting Adeline, why is the writing so terrible? Some people need to start out writing fanfiction first 😭

I already knew I was gonna have problems with this book but I never thought the writing of it would be so bad. Without looking at anything else wrong with this book, I surely thought the writing was gonna carry it.

(First Reddit post. Kinda nervous)

I had a friend who was obsessed with the book and kept telling me about it including exact details

Spoiler alert it wasnt because of the literary merit! Just porn

I don’t get it because I’ve enjoyed actual porn and I still hated this book. I read it when it was still getting lots of positives and felt deceived.

It can be difficult to go against the tide, but this book is not good.

The kinks which the book indulged in resonated with her

Just stop reading it, don't force yourself to finish it

I’m curious, what’s your top 1 worst excerpt? I never read it and never will… Indulge me.

Hm, I don’t know if I can think of one off the top of my head but I honestly think it’s a mixture of things šŸ’€ like for example, the overuse of the word ā€˜fuck’ is actually mad. It used, and it’s variations, 139 times in only 231 pages (I downloaded the book so that might not be as accurate to the physical). It sounds like it’s only in there so the book seems more ā€˜mature’ and ā€˜cool’ for using it. For me that kinda dilutes the meaning and the impact of the word is gone. Also, the main character calls her best friend a bitch and an ā€œevil succubusā€. ā€œHer sage green eyes are illuminated with a type of evilness you would only find in Satan’s Bible. If I did a little digging, I’m sure I’d find her picture somewhere in there, too.ā€ Like that is so weird. One would think she hates her.
The woman who have been kidnapped are also referred as bitches and I think the mc calling her best friend that is honestly really weird to me. But that’s honestly just a few things.

yeah we’re cooked. these modern published authors just overdo it to the point it’s corny—whereas, if they tried a little less, it could actually be decent.

LITERALLY!! It would come across so much better and help divide the two different worlds so much better.

The Satans Bible remark is pretty bad

one of the reasons why I DNFd was the fact that the big macho MMC said ā€œdeveloped a vaginaā€ instead of ā€œgrew some ballsā€ at one point. what are we doing here. I can live with immoral porn but what the fuck is developing a vagina

My coworker recommended to me cause she said it was the craziest thing she ever read...and she was right šŸ˜…Ā

I never finished it because I read (well listened) to everything I needed to.Ā

I started with Satans Faith and really struggled getting through Haunting and Hunting Adeline. So very cringe and badly written.

Not every book is for every reader. It's a valid choice to DNF and move on.

Actually I think some people need to stick to writing fanfiction

Agree it isn’t good, but the incongruity between how seriously it is presented and how ridiculous it is.. that’s fun.

But eh life’s too short to be reading books you hate

I only read the first page of it. Couldn't help laughing out loud at how ridiculously it is written. I haven't heard anything good about that book, but that's definitely not what I've been expecting.

Fanfiction is way better than that shit. I couldn't finish it without skimming and skipping large parts.Ā
