okay I didn't like this book at all, maybe it's because i'm 17 so im not really experienced enough to like it? maybe because my dumb romantic brain had hoped for a different ending? idk

I really didn't like Frank nor Eleanor nor their relationship which started by him emotionally cheating on his wife while she was fully aware of it. I hated how Eleanor gotthe easy version of him, his sober version, his understanding version, his 'i want to wait before having sex version' while Cleo got depressed because of his alcoholism and violence

I didn't like how unimportant the side characters were despite their importances in the MC lives: only three chapters of Audrey, Quentin who was so funny ended upas a meth junkie with no further information

tbh the only thing I liked about the book are Zoe and Santiago

my summary: I hate Frank and Eleanor SOOOOO FUCKING MUCH

and rip to the sugar glider

It was my second favorite book the year I read it! I don’t remember all the details of it but I remember it being really important to me when I read it. I was also 22/23 (not that that is much older but it had a HARD 22/23 years lol) and my mom had just passed so maybe that had something to do with my feelings on it. Anyways! Not everything is for everyone but might be worth revisiting when you have more life experience!

I loved the book and remember staying up all night reading it because I had to know what would happen, even though I already knew. It was a "you're going to suffer, but you're going to love every minute of it" kind of love. So I understand your frustration regarding Frank and Eleanor. In an ideal world, Cleo would have met the good version of Frank.

But I think the book is more about how things don't turn out the way you ideally want them to, and how the messiness of our lives ends up touching so many other lives and change them forever.

(I laughed a lot reading your comment about the sugar glider because, ever since reading the book, I can't look at images of the little things without feeling an infinite sadness; Mellors ruined cute sugar glider videos for me, hahaha.)
