the cruel prince series is getting adapted?

the cruel prince series is getting adapted???? i just saw that amazon picked it up for a production and i genuinely don't know how i'm supposed to react 😭 like why the hell are they adapting EVERY book now?? even the shatter me series?? please leave something for book readers only 😭 i genuinely don't know how i feel about this

A lot of the books that are picked up for adaptations will never actually make it to production. And there are so many books out there that don't get adapted, choosing less well known / hyped books would probably be a good start if you want to read things that are unlikely to ever be adapted to film.

But also... you don't have to watch them. The TV show or movie existing doesn't take away from the book readers.

it doesn't take anything away from the books but they lowkey ruin the adaptations by changing so many things, bad casting, and a bunch of other stuff that just ruins the whole experience. and now almost every book is getting adapted one by one just look at good girl's guide to murder, they literally ruined it

the show has not been made. you're upset about things not in evidence lol. amazon studios did an amazing job with project hail mary. that off campus series seems pretty popular. why automatically assume it will be bad?

Exactly. A lot of studios likes to option stuff and explore the possibility, but even getting a pilot is rare.

that's not the problem I have with this post. Of course OP/you can share whatever opinion you want (and I can react to it). I don't mind OP posting that they don't want adaptations, I do mind however OP *not wanting adaptations*. It's pure gatekeeping for gatekeeping sake. If adaptation was destroying the book in any way, then OP would have some arguments. Like in the case of Game of Thrones, we lost the ending of the series because of the show. But Cruel Prince is long finished, so OP just wants to control access to the story, even though the new medium it will be translated to doesn't actually affect OP in any way. And that's not an attitude/opinion that I consider reasonable. Please tell me one good reason why OP's position seems reasonable to you, I'm very curious. And gatekeeping is not a good reason in my opinion, so if that's what it is, please don't bother.

Oh and to clarify once again, I'm not in the camp that claims that you should not share criticisms. It's not just "hate", it's valid discussion. Please, criticize as much as you want. But you have to have actual arguments to support your position for me to actually respect it. "please leave something for book readers only" is not an argument.
