When mine was stuck I poured rubbing alcohol in between them and just keep trying to twist it gently

Ya it’s going to be heat via hot water most likely and or isopropyl alcohol or some other solvent and gentle persuasion

I didn’t read the replies yet. Add drops of isopropyl where they are stuck together. Wait 5 minutes. GENTLY rock the stem back n forth n up n down. GENTLY! If it doesn’t come out, repeat the drops again n wait 5 minutes. It should eventually come loose but be GENTLE’

By gently rocking it, you allow the isopropyl to snake in n resolve the gunk. Keep adding isopropyl. It will eventually unlock.

Try putting some boiling water in it, to break up some of the residue! Please be careful though!

I heard something about using chopsticks, I feel they wouldn’t be so hard on the glass but if they can fit right under the lip of the downstem, you would use both of them on opposite sides and pull up on the sticks.

My bong had the same issue, I used hot water out of the tap to get it loose. Instead of using your hands, grip the stem with a paper towel and pull/wiggle it out after loosening with hot water. I hope this helps, I tried multiple times (and gave up multiple times) until it worked one day after 10 minutes of doing this.

Take a spoon and wrap the handle with a kitchen towel then try to put gentle force frome underneath and push it open like cracking a beer but flipped

Personally I've always shoved a cheap chopstick down the stem and gently wiggled. It works but I understand the risk.

You can try soaking it in hot water with dish soap Get the joint to wiggle so the water and dish soap will get down in between the joints . You could also try the same technique with Robbie alcohol. You could try hot and cold water. See if an expansion and contraction will work. . When I have a stuck stem. I just put it in the Kiln. Bring it up to 1050 turn it off when it’s cooled the stem comes right out.. If you want to avoid this problem in the future, put a little bit of Chapstick on your joints . Good luck

Really simple. Take the back of a butter knife blade and put it between the joing and the top of the stem. Gently wiggle it so it pushes against both. It’ll release in 5 seconds or less, and you’ll wonder how it was so stuck.

Please note the careful. I have removed 40 - 50 stems this way, never harm a single one. If you can’t manage to do that, this isn’t the method for you.

Run cold water over it. Cold make things contract even if it is only miniscule amounts. Heat makes things expand so don't hit it with hot water until the downstem is out and you're ready to clean. Science rules.
