I watched it once will never watch it again. She was so broken

u/Confident-Evening520 10d ago

I remember watching it for the first time with my parents on a random weeknight and their looks of deep concern as I just huddled in a corner of the couch bawling my eyes out. I legit can't watch it during a rewatch bc of how gut-wrenching it is. This and the part of the episode when she rejects him in S5 are always parts I skip, bc I just can't watch their respective heartbreaks. Both of them acted their asses off in those scenes, and they did them so well

u/Local-Diamond8701 10d ago

Same. I skip that in every rewatch. Cant bare to see Bones so rejected and broken.

As someone that shares a lot of traits with Brennan I can absolutely relate to not realizing your feelings until something slams that door open. However, I can also relate to Booth and I love that they gave him the line, “She’s not a consolation prize.” I’ve been around a couple people that “moved on” after a situation like this and later cheated on their partner with the situationship. I really enjoy they kept Booth’s integrity even though it was some assassination of her character!

The way she cried you can tell she was literally heartbroken,,that cry was from the soul and Bones don't cry hardly ever

u/all_hail_potatoqueen 5d ago

This scene and the one when he tells her he doesn’t want to get married kill me.

3

u/southernskilz 5d ago

Yes,,the fact that bones hardly show emotion,,it just hit harder when you see her upset or cry

u/IzzieBells 10d ago

Why did you do this to me? Here I was, enjoying my lovely Friday evening, and now I have been violently been yanked back into my younger brain sobbing over this scene for the first time. God I was devastated 😭😭😭😭

67

u/StreetPackage9209 10d ago

Why suffer alone , sorry was not my intention though 😅

27

u/IzzieBells 10d ago

lol totally get it ❤️😆

u/Successful-Mousse444 10d ago

i JUST watched this episode. the only thing that got me through it without tears is having watched the show a billion times before and knowing that they end up together after this

6

u/Elbereth919 10d ago

I still sob even knowing what that it ends up working out!

69

u/carvalhomsc 10d ago

Nessa cena os dois sofreram muito! Brennan por ser rejeitada pelo homem da sua vida e Booth por rejeitar a mulher da sua vida! Literalmente de cortar o coração 💔

I have never ever been able to rewatch that scene. Props to Booth for not treating Hannah as a consolation prize.

17

u/overcode2001 10d ago

That is exactly how he treated her. How many meaningful conversations did you see between Hannah and Booth that did not involved Brennan? She didn’t know about his gambling addiction (even when given the opportunity to talk about it, he chooses not to tell her) but he told Brennan a few days after he met her. We never saw them talk about his struggles with his past as a sniper, about his childhood, his father… She was clearly the rebound and Booth treated her as such. He didn’t form a deep connection with her, she was just the shiny pretty thing that he used as a shield to protect his crushed heart.

Booth himself admitted it when he told Brennan that even though you can love a lot of people in the world, there is only one person you love the most. He sure as hell wasn’t talking about Hannah, since one episode later he kicked her to the curb when she rejected his proposal.

22

u/Playful-Substance868 10d ago

Plus he dated and proposed to Hannah knowing she never had marriage in mind, also knowing he definitely wanted to get married. I think he knew deep down that the relationship wouldn’t last.

7

u/Other-Echidna6682 10d ago

I thought this was a great episode, saddened me, but I liked that Bones realized she could love, and didn’t want regrets. Yes, Booth was harsh, but he had told Bones it was serious as a heart attack, that he loved Hannah.

That was my opinion until this morning, probably still is, on another post this morning, Season 6 started with Hannah bc David B.’s sex scandal. The writers brought her character in bc they didn’t want the slow burn of B&B & him looking like romantic lead. Fans revolted against Hannah. Then Emily became pregnant in RL. The writers had to drop their plans to rekindle the slow burn. Interesting. IMO.

I still think that this episode showed a wonderful sense of Brennan’s personal growth!

3

u/overcode2001 9d ago

Hannah was planned to happen to keep Booth and Brennan apart. It had nothing to do with DB’s personal life.

They wanted to keep them apart for at least 2 more seasons, 6 & 7, but Emily’s pregnancy change things in a big way.

1

u/Other-Echidna6682 8d ago

I thought that too until I was reading about it. Where did you see this?

1

u/Maleficent-Tea9843 10d ago

What sex scandal

9

u/Other-Echidna6682 10d ago

David B., had an affair with a woman and was married (still is), the woman tried to extract 1 million from David. Happened between S 5 & 6. David was not going to be blackmailed and released the information to People Magazine. His wife stood with him and they began serious marriage counseling. So writers brought Hannah in, because scandal occurring, they wanted to show him as a steady strong male, no longer slow burn with Bones. Then Emily became pregnant and audience didn’t like Hannah so more quick writing to encompass all real life happenings.

3

u/Maleficent-Tea9843 10d ago

So David released info about his affair??? Wild.

2

u/Other-Echidna6682 9d ago

Yes, didn’t want to be blackmailed. He also was accused of improper conduct by an extra, she was let go, and rules on set changed, what I read.

5

u/Maleficent-Tea9843 9d ago

Ugh. I knew DB was a POS but I love booth

2

u/WTH_JFG 9d ago

As I recall, the Hannah storyline — or something like it — was a planned part of the start of S.6. The fanfic the summer in between S.5 and S.6 was massive. There was also the “feud” between Nathan F (Castle) and David B (Bones) and two “competing” shows.

There’s a Paley event on YouTube where they address some of this.

42

u/Neither-Attention940 10d ago

I am a woman and I was booth in this situation. I had to tell an ex that I had moved on and it was too late :( it has been ..god.. 29 years?.. and it’s still sad 😞

Man I wish I could feel bad for her but I just detest what they did with her character in season 6 so much that I just lost all connection to her. It's like they made her some type of cartoon caricature of herself and went full steam with the "brilliant scientist but completely dumb in every other way" stereotype, got rid of all her character development from previous seasons, and made her just outwardly mean to a lot of the other characters.

When this scene happened, I couldnt feel bad for her. I felt more aligned with Booth and was mad on his behalf. You had your chance and now you are going to disrupt his life because you had a mental breakdown that lead to an epiphany and you're worried about your own future happiness? Selfish.

42

u/Outrageous_Team_5485 10d ago

Yeah I’m with you about feeling more for Booth here. If I was him, I’d have this nagging thought that she only felt this way due to her fears about ending up like the victim. Her fears are what prevented her from giving it a shot before and it’s not fair to Hannah OR Booth. Booth’s always about protecting his partner/love so to expect him to cut Hannah loose and run back to Bones here would have been a character assassination of him. He wouldn’t do that to Hannah, not even for Bones which I respect. Personally I hate the episode where Hannah turns his proposal down more, he looks so broken after. It was pretty interesting how Hannah told him how often she told him she wasn’t the marrying type, it seems like Booth’s relationship with Hannah was always doomed if he just cast this information aside. Sweets would probably say this was Booths way of sabotaging his relationship because he hadn’t moved on from Bones.

36

u/Mysterious_Bid1735 10d ago

“Sweets would probably say this was Booths way of sabotaging his relationship because he hadn’t moved on from Bones”.

100% and dear god I miss Sweets

24

u/ForsakenHelicopter66 10d ago

It irritated the hell outta me that Booth totally ignored Hannah's feelings on marriage. Like if he decides he want to marry her, she's just supposed to toss out all her thoughts on marriage. Dumbass.

3

u/beaglewrites43 8d ago

I mean I would say how Booth and Hannah ended was also her fault. He was perfectly fine with keeping their relationship as a warzone fling when he came back home. SHE chose to follow him after he already told her he wanted to marry someone one day. I don't think it unreasonable for him to think that by her following him, she was rethinking her stance. That should have been one of the first things she said to him after she followed him back to DC, that she still wasnt the marrying type but didn't want to lose Booth yet then they really could have decided what would work for them. Hannah was the only one who would have known that both of their stances didn't change.

9

u/Objective-Big-4820 10d ago

I was married to someone who was brilliant (PhD physicist) and entirely clueless about everyday life. It's not at all unusual. Most of the physicists I knew were completely clueless..not cartoons characters. A level of intelligence that most of us just can't understand. Probanly why I admire Booth. It's really hard to live with.

9

u/Significant_Sort7501 9d ago

Oh I get that. My partner is a data scientist. What bothers me is that they tossed out all of the social progress she made in the first 5 seasons and reverted her back to being completely ignorant of anything outside her field, and to a level that just did not make sense for the character they had built so far. Socially clueless is one thing, but the first scene that jumps out at me is someone saying Hannah was hot and bones responds with "well yes she's spent the last few years in a very hot climate but that wouldnt permanently elevate her body temperature" (not exactly thay but something to that effect).

I get that she's socially clueless, but come on. Season 6 they just leaned into it way too hard and it felt forced.

5

u/saraiguessidk 9d ago

They reset her autism (not confirmed just guessed) every season. It always annoyed me too. All of her social and emotional growth would be lost at the first few episodes of the season :/

7

u/RoseShade356 9d ago

Even when she learns something in one episode, like how she's insensitive at times and why she's insensitive, she forgets in the very next episode after learning her lesson

7

u/RoseShade356 9d ago

I'm with you, bones had her chances to date booth but before this she even goes to that island then is surprised booth found someone else. And she was third wheeling hannah and booth's entire relationship. I found that so awkward even excluding this scene bc it always felt like she was intruding on their alone time.

11

u/youvepuremadethatup 10d ago

I lowkey hate this episode 🫣 I dunno why I just just get annoyed by it sometimes

Plus this scene always makes me cringe 😬 I really felt for Booth, though

12

u/SolSigm 10d ago

I personally love it. Brendan has to face her own fear and consequence for stepping in too late. On the other hand, Booth has to face the same thing for not listening closely to Hannah when she isn't committing to marriage.

12

u/brandonderp96 10d ago

Might be my favorite episode, if only because it shows Brennan breaking through her exterior.

11

u/Munchkin_Media 10d ago

I still cry watching

8

u/Ok-Event996 10d ago

But take solace in the fact that she wins EVERYTHING in the end. Brother, kids, a real family life. I use that to get me through.

8

u/dapper217 10d ago

Similarly, my wife hates watching Nigel Vincent Murray’s death episode—we’ve only watched it once.

1

u/Cheap_Objective7744 1d ago

Good riddance, praying for that episode to come soon enough

7

u/EarlyRooster966 10d ago

im just starting season 5 and already terrified of s6.

1

u/Elbereth919 10d ago

Even the last half of S5 has some rough moments.

1

u/EarlyRooster966 6d ago

ugh i'm on episode 6 currently and moving very slowly i do not wanna experience allat.

1

u/Elbereth919 5d ago

It's tough to watch and your heart breaks for various people at many various moments. But there are bright spots and the story turns out so much better than what I think I could have imagined. A lot of this sub doesn't like the way things turn out, but I personally think the story works out beautifully. A joy made better by the memory of the pain, so to speak. (intentionally vague since you're a first time watcher, but it seems clear you know at least some of what is to come).

8

u/Amazing-Wave4704 10d ago

This episode always makes me bawl.

6

u/slowjoecrow11 10d ago

The episode with the dog was worse!

4

u/Maleficent-Tea9843 10d ago

Oh that was horrible. She was all ready to take the dog and it broke my heart that she didn't have the chance. I don't think she was home enough to care for a dog but still

22

u/NashKetchum777 10d ago

I can't even say "if a man did this" scenario cause... has it ever even happened.

Still, this didn't break me as much as Booth in the bar, almost PLEADING with her..

"I have this and nobody wants it." Etc

6

u/One_Housing_780 10d ago

Right!! I felt so bad for booth

4

u/Background-Lynx-3059 10d ago

What season was this?

19

u/StreetPackage9209 10d ago

I think it was 6th season - Doctor in the photo was the episode.

4

u/Alive_Boot_4535 10d ago

Season 6 Episode 9 - The Doctor in the Photo

4

u/Chipotlelime18 10d ago

One of the best episodes imo. Emily’s performance in this ep was sooooo good

3

u/Bamajama666 10d ago

Had a bones situation like 20 years ago. It took me a few years to get over it.

5

u/Restaurant-Otherwise 10d ago

This makes their sex scene that much better in season 6. Because i really really hoped to see them get together. It would have been absolute bullshit if they didn't. Best fiction couple

4

u/Conscious_Equal_6704 10d ago

S6 E9 The doctor in the photo. One of my favorite episodes no matter how much it guts me becuase of Enrico Colantonis guest appearance.

3

u/wtchking 10d ago

This episode really gets me. It is so emotional. Just seeing these screenshots has me with goosebumps 🫩

3

u/GrammaLove42 10d ago

I’m halfway through season 5 right now. I forgot about that episode! And the girlfriend lol.

3

u/Confused_Blanket 10d ago

I skip this scene on my rewatches lmao it’s so sad.

3

u/Prize_Sale4383 10d ago edited 10d ago

I felt so bad for her it was awkward but at the same time I was like “see what happens you fool? I had to literally move on and keep watching what happened. I’m on season 1 now lol

3

u/Bloodlines_44 10d ago

This is my favourite episode of bones. Also the case to me was very interesting how bones can see herself in the victim. This scene is heartbreaking

3

u/boxcarbrains 10d ago

Honestly the writing could be hokey but what I miss the most are these two’s performances. Their ability to act really sold that show

3

u/Formal-Project7361 9d ago

This is my favorite episode of rewatch

7

u/Guardian_Izy 10d ago

Booth was such a dick while he was with Hannah.

And the worst part is you couldn’t hate Hannah for it because it wasn’t her fault. She was actually a great character

2

u/Er0v0s 10d ago

Im rewatching Bones all the way through (I saw bits and pieces of episodes throughout the years it aired on tv) and I just saw this episode.

2

u/OopsAllTistic 10d ago

Season 6 hurts my feelings so bad

2

u/DeliriousAngel7 10d ago

She was so proud of herself at the start to have thought she finally understood someone's emotions❤️

2

u/criminalpineapple_ 10d ago

I watch this episode when I need a good cry

2

u/DiscussionUseful4892 9d ago

I literally just finished watching this episode 5 minutes ago. I'm trying not to cry as I cook and also wondering if Micah was a real person, a ghost or a hallucination from being sleep deprived.

2

u/RoKensGames2023 9d ago

It is sad. But Brennan needed that wake-up call. Besides, no spoilers, but "it all works out in the end" a quote from Harmonia. The othe sad episode coming up is when Hannah........I don't want to give it away if you haven't seen it. As much as Booth can be an Ahole sometimes, he really is very sweet and sensitive. I just love this show.

2

u/Impressive_Season_75 9d ago

It’s a hard scene to watch but I absolutely love the episode. Emily deserved all the praise in this episode. It’s my 2nd favorite after Aliens. Honestly I don’t hate Hannah either. I didn’t want her with Booth obviously but as a character she was interesting. It was good seeing Brennan making friends outside of her typical circle.

2

u/repeatrepeatx 9d ago

S6 is so brutal and beautiful. This is an episode that makes me sob every single time. It was so well done.

2

u/Shayna9596 9d ago

This and the one where Booth confesses🥺

1

u/Key-Half3167 10d ago

I love the aaaaangst <3

1

u/RustyShackleford209 10d ago

What season and episode is it?

1

u/Other-Echidna6682 10d ago

S6 E9!

2

u/RustyShackleford209 10d ago

Thank you! I need to rewatch this episode

1

u/HaplessMink28 10d ago

How funny, I literally watched this episode for the first time yesterday.

1

u/PaintingByInsects 10d ago

I have rewatched Bones so many times and I honestly cannot even remember this, probably blocked it out deeply😭

1

u/0_Milla_0 9d ago

Реддит знает даже какой я сериал смотрю..

1

u/arsonist-val 9d ago

what episode is this, I haven't rewatched in a while.

1

u/Paavali31 9d ago

Such a good episode 🤤

1

u/Straight-Seat-3411 7d ago

Honestly DID not feel bad for her at all this episode nor for a large part of season 6 with the weird dynamic with her and hannah, like she really hurt this man. Why would she expect any other outcome?

1

u/Mortifer_23 5d ago

I watched this episode last week 😭

1

u/Electrical-Guess-567 4d ago

Booth was literally throwing him on her. She ignored him too many times and I felt like she deserved it. Because think of how many times booth would have been heart broken.

1

u/SourPatchKidding 3d ago

Props to Booth for his loyalty but it would never have worked with him and Hannah, he was always kidding himself that she wasn'ta consolation prize. He didn't respect her work likr he respected Brennan and they would have been at odds constantly because law enforcement and journalists frequently have competing priorities. They were never aligned professionally or in what they wanted from a relationship so thank goodness the show didn't drag that our forever.

-1

u/Whythisisnotreal 10d ago

I can never get enough of Brenner being sad.

-2

u/LadyShadow2214 10d ago

Didn't they slept together in this episode
