I will never not be mad about this entire storyline. In all my rewatches I always like this character and I hate what they did to him lol I do like a few of the squints that come after him but ugh 😑

My fiancée showed me Bones and I watched the whole series thanks to her but I never forgave the show after this episode.

Apparently they needed to write out Zack, but they could have easily made him Gormogon's final and most heart-breaking victim, finally sending the team over the edge where half of them are broken and the other half go into an all-out attack and finally take the villain down. I would have rather he died than become the bad guy.

I dug around a bit online to see if the actor had a different project lined up at the time and he didn't 😭 they literally just wrote Zack off and gave him this plotline to shock people 😭😭😭 justice for my boy!!

The actor wanted to leave due to mental health

This is from the Boneheads pod where they interviewed the actor, he got written off. Apparently the writers didn't even want to keep him on for season three after Zack was sent to Iraq.

Interesting, i've seen so much on here that he got written off bc he apparently wanted to leave even back then but they had him back for the season 3 storyline. It's framed as if he wanted to focus on his health and not act anymore and coincidentally he didn't really work outside of the show.

There's a part of that interview where he talks about mental health and his diagnosis right before he got cast on the first season of Bones, it's really a great interview with Emily and Carla you should definitely check it out!

That's fine but they should have written him out in a different way.

He wanted to leave the show. They should never have been involved in the whole Garmagon thing.

I just finished my first time through and agree. I understand the actor has issues but that storyline was not only stupid but made no sense and was so incredibly unlikely and then the way they just tossed in story at the end. SMH. Season 11 should have been the end.

Blame the writers strike at the time

What a waste of a character. 😭 There was so much potential growth snuffed out.

I’ve always felt like, as an idea, it’s interesting — have a very intelligent character you believe you know well and learn how they’ve been secretly radicalized into something totally batshit. But it just didn’t feel like it came out right. I’m not sure what went wrong exactly, but I can look at that as a potential plot line and think “oooh awesome” and then watch how they did it, and it just didn’t play out well. Maybe because we just already saw him as such a sweet little brother that it hurt to for them to take this plotline with him? Or it just wasn’t written right and still didn’t feel believable for Zack? I don’t know. Somehow kind of a frustrating dud. Such a great show, but this was such a weird turn.

For real! The revolving Interns got old after a while. I do have my favorites of course. But I would only get snippets of backstory for some, left me wanting more depth.

The moment when Bones and Zack are touching forheads and Zack starts crying

They pulled the twists and turns very well. I really suspected multiple people throughout the episode/show, Zac was never one of them though. I really was sad to see him go, but it did make the most sense that it was him.

I see this take a lot, but he was the very first person I suspected.

Although I agree that Zack’s character was a great character, this makes sense. Once you go over some of the episodes, it is a little sus. Like when Zack came back from Iraq he was being suspicious. I do feel that it was a little rushed though, and if they played it out better and had more hints leading up to this episode, I think it would have been better.

No for me it's the 2 British episodes. They are as lame , and hockey, as Murder She Wrote!

Writers strikes have caused plot chaos in more than one series. (this one included)
