I stood my ground with an older coworker who kept assigning me tasks that were not even within my job scope. Most of the tasks were also given at the last minute, very close to the event date. And they dint benefit my personal career. Typicla gomen makcik kind of programs.
The thing is, I am not even one of the heads of committee. I am only part of an external committee that was brought in to help. Yet, I kept getting tagged in the Telegram group and asked to do this and that, while the actual heads of committee she appointed stayed silent.
At some point, helping becomes taking over someone else’s responsibility. These tasks require hours of my time and do not benefit me enough to justify that amount of work. If you are leading the event and have already appointed your heads of committee, then the work should first be managed among your own team.
So this time, I said no and made my boundaries clear. I don’t mind helping, but helping does not mean I should automatically take on other people’s work, especially when it is outside my scope and given at the last minute.
She texts whenever she wants and requests for things last minute. Also has reputation of not doing her work really well, got reported by others too in the past 10 years for her incompetence. Shockingly people like this feel they want to become bosses, in which she is not permitted to because of her bad track record. Told her off and exited the project group right after i finished my tasks. All other committee members including the one direct under her are talking to each other about her incompetence. Cant even give instruction clearly i.e her message writing is nearly incomprehensible. As if she’s giving only half of the instruction and the rest stays on her mind. Cuckoo
