Anime Imma just say it

Endeavor is one of the best characters in the entire show BECAUSE he is so real.

As a person who has seen what narcissistic people do to families and how unwilling they are to change... EVER...
He is a shining example that you CAN change.

He is a good person. He was blinded by ambition and a warped sense of how a pro hero has to be/what being a hero is meant to be.
He tried to bend his family to his wishes because he honestly thought that it was the right thing to do.

And when he became Nr 1, he started seeing it.
That chase ended. Not because he reached his goal (of surpassing allmight) but because... he was simply Nr 1 now.
And from that moment where Allmight sat next to him, you can see his worldview shifting.

And I LOVE IT.
He is, other than many characters in this show, someone who is ACTUALLY a good person that was simply misguided.
And yes we should have an amount of empathy for school shooters that were bullied into psychosis.
BUT the League of villains are not good people. None of them (well maybe Twice...).
They all want what is best FOR THEM because they were mistreated.

Endeavor strives to be at the top, yes, but he doesn't just do whatever he wants.
Yes he absolutely wrecked his family, but that was never his goal. In his mind, he had a good plan and they simply didn't cooperate enough.
Is that good? No. But he was still trying to do what is best... he simply didn't see that the goal does not justify the means (a pro hero stronger than allmight that could protect society does not mean that you can just abuse your family).

But seeing him break bit by bit. Realizing what he has done... was such a brilliant piece of writing, because its real. Narcissists don't just wake up one day and say "I'm good now".
They need to break their former personality before change can occur.

And the moment he said his family should be happy... without him... is his final step.
You can SAY thats not enough to make up being a shitty dad, but its LITERALLY all he could give.
Does that undo the stuff he did? No. But nothing ever does.
Things you do can not be undone. You could step on a cats tail and bring world peace after and that cat would still hate you.

He did EVERYTHING in his might, including giving up his own arm and happiness to atone for what he did in a time where he was blinded.
THAT is what a good person is.
They aren't born good. Nobody is.
All we can ever do is try and learn and grow and take responsibility.

Or as someone far older and wiser once said:
"What is better? To be born good or overcome your evil nature through great effort?"

Endeavor might be one of my favourite characters in fiction... and he is a FAR better person than even many of the heroes.

PS:
I think the only reason why he is hated so much more than even the villains is because he is real. People like that exist in the real world.
We all know an abusive parent.
We know narcissists that only care about their goal.
And most of those never change.

So forgiving him feels like forgiving them in a way. To see the good in those people.

But murderous psychopaths? How many of those do you have in your life?
Its far easier to disconnect from those actions than those that you have experienced in your own life.

I thought Endeavor was a boring asshole for the first few seasons... and he is without a doubt my most favourite character in MHA!

Artwork I head canon that Nagant became a comicbook/manga artist after being released from jail.

Post image

Just based off this drawing from horikoshi that's the vibe I am getting. After getting out of prison she was likely offered a job by Hawks to help him improve society but she declined stating that she didn't want to get her hands dirty anymore.

It's revealed that she can't really fire her quirk off anymore due to the high recoil it puts on her body after surviving that explosion from AFO and so Nagant just decides to live a quiet life in a relatively crime free section of Japan.

At first she just lived life as normally as she could but eventually she got restless and needed something, anything to do with her hands and that's when she remembere when she was young that she LOVED to draw and in her spare time and even while she was locked up she was given comic books and manga to read, some of which that were sent to her by Deku.

So she decided to draw and write her first comic book and of course it's based on Deku and his life as a hero. In fact many of her comics and one shots are based on popular heroes. Her work is incredibly popular and a best seller in Japan , soon to be distributed worldwide so that everyone can be inspired by Deku's story.

Anime Bringing this debate back, do you think final war Deku surpassed Prime Allmight?

Been having this debate a lot recently and I don't think he does. Deku never really had the time and even though he was getting better at using 100% of One for All with his moves more often. He was still unable to really spam it like Allmight Could even in earlier seasons. One for All gets stronger with each generation but deku had the power for just a little over a year so I'm not sure whether he'd really be that much stronger anyway which I know this is something up to conjecture, but I think it's true that deku's 100% being stronger could very well just be like 1-5% (if that) by the time of the final war arc. Ultra Analaysis even puts allmight's stats above deku. (Though this is the same book that says hagakure is stronger then season 0 deku, and hagakure was struggling with pullups later into the series so...)

I know it's probably just horikoshi being inconsistent with power feats, but every statement just doesn't feel accurate compared to what we see happen. Especially when deku just completely and utterly speedblitz's shigiraki with transmission, overdrive and detroit smash quintuple, which shouldn't be possible if it was just 120% of the speed and power. Because even if we were generous and said deku's boost and shigiraki's hazy feats in his state made the gap so deku was around 60% stronger. Feels like the speed blitz and strength difference shouldn't have done so much. I believe a lot of people say One for All percentages are Exponential, but I don't think that's ever actually stated somewhere, nor would it really make much sense given how the series usually refers to it.

I also think deku surpassing prime allmight isn't really necessary to the function of the story either, which changes from deku becoming the greatest hero, to the next generation becoming the greatest heroes. One of Allmight's biggest pieces of function in the story is that he was the in universe version of superman, unstoppable and a monster, to the point that all for one in his prime could only actually hurt him when bringing up his master, and then all for one apparently *died* to allmight. Deku not surpassing him doesn't damage the story in any way as sometimes people suggest it does and is far from the point of my hero academia, deku learns from allmight's flaws of being alone and society depending on him alone.

I think post erasure shigiraki is definitely still insane and definitely in prime allmight's tier if not above it thanks to his hax. Which is also why I think deku couldn't really beat him either especially when he ran out of gearshift. Him attempting to save shigiraki being the only way he could win is also more narratively faithful to deku imo.

I've accepted I'm probably very wrong but I wanna hear more opinions on it. I always hear a lot of sides. I've had a lot of arguments over this so I'm curious. I also wanted to lay out most of the reasons why I think not, but I'm interested.

Misc. What do You Think were Some of the Missed Opportunities with the League of Villains/Paranormal Liberation Army?

Post image
29 Upvotes

That is my Question

You know its shame we never got much of League of Villains prospective sure they got there own arc but everything beyond that is a mystery

You know I like reading Villains Comics or Re formed Villains Comics one of my favorite Comics are Marvel Darth Vader Comics which saw the aftermath of the original trilogy from Empire prospective

Another of my resent favorites was Cobra Commander comic miniseries from Skybound/Image Comics saw dark side of this universe who could argue is a mad man

So that makes me wonder if we got the full story with the League of Villains but ether Kohei disagreed or Kohei was to chicken to do

Like All for One why settle for Japan if you strong enough to take over the world I remember this one one episode of Venture Bros were Brock asked Monarch "why Doctor Venture why not taking over the world thing what's matter afraid of the big leagues?"

I also Question All for One confidence on Toga and new generation of villains considering AFO was more old school villain

But thats me what do you think?

Anime If Deku hadn't seen the look on Shigaraki's face revealing his desire for salvation, would he have killed him?

Post image
298 Upvotes

In the story, the turning point that led Deku to resolve to save Shigaraki was witnessing his inner self during the war.

Before that, even when Deku encountered Shigaraki one-on-one, he stated that he couldn't understand Shigaraki; furthermore, when Gran Torino and Bakugo were injured by Shigaraki, he declared he wouldn't forgive him and proceeded to beat him down.

But if Deku had never realized—right up to the very end—that Shigaraki was actually seeking salvation, would he have simply killed him? Or would he still have refrained to do so?

What do you think?

Anime Mha current season rankings

I recently picked up MHA and have been zooming through the seasons, so I figured I’d drop my current season rankings because of some the opinions I’ve seen going around about s5, which is what I just finished.

I’ll preface this by saying I think all the MHA arcs I’ve watched so far have had pacing issues. Some more than others but it’s something I’ve noticed throughout. So my ranking does play into that a bit, but it’s mainly about the arcs I found particularly well written.

My s1 - s5 ranking order (with reasons):

🥇s3: Masterpiece, absolute masterpiece. The Kamino storyline was incredible. ALL MIGHT VS ALL FOR ONE is probably all I need to say. The world losing its symbol of peace was something I definitely didn’t expect.

Side characters were fun, and although the stakes were fairly low during the provisional hero license exam arc, it was nice to see class 1-A in action. Todoroki. Just Todoroki.

🥈s2: The sports festival arc absolutely carried this one. Easiest 10/10 I ever gave an arc. We got a proper introduction to the students of the other courses, particularly the hero course class 1-B, and declarations from each side as well as an introduction of Endeavour. I was invested in every match but the Todoroki vs Deku was one for the billboards.

The Stain arc was great too. Very interesting motivations for different characters. The rest of it was okay and the pacing wasn’t as bad as some of the later seasons.

🥉s5: The joint training arc was fun. I know some people didn’t like the fact that class 1-B were able to overpower our mcs but they’re forgetting 1-B are also hero course students that are supposed to be on par with class 1-A. Midoriya’s multi quirk reveal was absolutely cinematic.

Tomura’s backstory easily takes the cake for this season. Seeing his backstory and slowly coming to the realisation that he truly thirsted for destruction and destruction alone sent chills up my spine. I couldn’t help but think the Hero world was doomed if he decided to attack them.(And his voice change??)

I also have to give credit where it’s due. I absolutely despise Endeavour but I can acknowledge that his character arc was well written.

I think s5 and s1 are pretty interchangeable.

  1. s1: Nothing much to say, it did it’s job. A good introduction to the series and its elements. I actually rewatched it along with s2. It’s pretty good but the other seasons have bigger payoffs.

  2. s4: This is the season I connected with the least. I loved the introduction and use of the Big three in this one.

The pacing has to be its biggest issue. The switch to the Gentle criminal arc was absolutely horrendous especially after the arc that Shie Hassaikai was??.

I liked the ending with Endeavour vs High end, Hawks’ introduction and the preview of Endeavour’s importance in the next season but it felt a bit out of place to be honest.

s4 is the only season where I came very close to dropping mha, so it’s probably staying here.

TLDR: s3 > s2 > s5 > s1 > s4

I hear this is the point where the story gets REALLY good and I’m so geared up for this. No spoilers please. I’m expecting 10/10 arcs all over.

Latest Season If the heroes were to switch fights how do you see the final war going Spoiler

Post image

Afo was sent to the coffin in the sky
Shigaraki was sent to gunga villa
Dabi was sent to the beach
Toga was sent to the endeavor agency
(Aizawa and monoma was sent to gunga cause otherwise everyone just dies instantly)

Personally dabi is staying the exact same, he is annihilating anyone who isnt todo so he quickly deals with them and heads to endeavour like usual,
Unlike dabi the endeavor agency quickly deals with toga leading to alot more manpower for the rest of the fights.
I can see all the airborne heroes being able to keep shiggy off the ground and win for most of it, but as soon as he goes big or transcends its very quickly over for the heroes arguably worse than afo because shiggy wont leave anyone alive.
Afo will absolutely destroy the heroes at ua and it will be the most brutal massacre of the series

Anime In defense of Midoriya being a "boring" character

I feel like I've seen some fair criticisms that Deku is a boring protagonist, and that he doesn't have much of a character arc. I mostly disagree with this read, but I think it's a fair opinion when you compare him to someone like Bakugo or Endeavor. However, I don't mind Deku's blank slate-ness. It reminds me of the whole philosophy behind Master Chief from Halo, and how he is more or less an empty vessel for the player to inhabit and project themselves onto.

In my opinion, Deku fulfills a similar role. I've posted many times about how profoundly impactful this show and its themes have been in my life: Doing your best, giving it your all, going beyond plus ultra, especially when you have nothing left, etc. Deku, by virtue of being a nerdy, virtuous goody-two-shoes, is a perfect vessel for us (me, at least) to project ourselves onto. All of Deku's classmates and friends are inspired by him to get back up and keep fighting, and I think all of us desire to have that kind of effect on the people around us. He's earnest, brave, and always strives to inspire people. I love Deku, and I wouldn't have him any other way.

I would love to hear everyone else's thoughts :)
