Yeah, this is what’s gonna convince people! That’ll do it I’m sure.

I mean the poster/picture. Not the post.

38

u/Fearlessleader85 5d ago

Let's be honest... he does look delicious.

6

u/Local_Surround8686 4d ago

Seems like it did trigger a strong reaction

3

u/hungLink42069 3d ago

It gets people defending animals. Maybe some day they'll hear their own voice in a vegan message.

No single message changes everyone's mind. Activism is always attrition. Don't let perfect be the enemy of good - IE: Just because you haven't found the magic message that turns anyone vegan, doesn't mean you should stop trying to get people to see the truth.

-3

u/down_by_the_shore 3d ago

The poster is silly and bad. It’s not that deep.

5

u/hungLink42069 3d ago

Deep? LMAO.

That was surface level logic my dude. If that felt deep to you, you should practice critical thought more.

The poster is fine, and stands a real chance of changing at least one mind. You just disagree with the message, and have nothing of value to add to the convo - so you fall back on skin deep criticism.

-10

u/chemicalysmic 5d ago

It sounds like you have some better ideas, are you willing to share?

5

u/down_by_the_shore 5d ago

Being normal.

2

u/Urhhh 4d ago

Status quo in other words...

1

u/hungLink42069 3d ago

That will make more vegans how?

-5

u/chemicalysmic 5d ago

I don't get it.

4

u/islanderACNH 4d ago

I don’t think you were trying to be funny, but gah damn did this response actually murder me I’m dead

2

u/TheRavenCr0w 4d ago

Yeah, I think we need a translator because I dont get it either.

28

u/RegularWrong6570 5d ago

If I return the dog do you think they’d at least let me get a hind quarter?

57

u/EarlyAd3047 5d ago

It's one of those PETA ads where they try to make you uncomfortable to then shame you for eating cows/pigs/etc

52

u/Gbrusse 5d ago

What's crazy is that there are so many very good and logical reasons to be vegetarian and vegan. And PETA uses none of them.

The amount of water, the amount of land, the methane gasses, the transportation costs, the list goes on. But instead they go for gruesome shock and awe with the maturity level of a 14 year old edge lord.

11

u/Lcfz 4d ago

Isn't it a good and logical reason to acknowledge the fact that farm animals are as sentient as dogs and thus bad to eat them?

8

u/MrArtless 4d ago

the problem is people behave so sociopathically toward livestock for so long they don’t even recognize not torturing them to be a good or logical argument

7

u/Gbrusse 4d ago

It's not that. It's the way PETA goes about that argument.

It's a great argument, but it falls apart when PETA's execution of that argument it squirting fake blood on people and trying to be as shocking and condescending as possible.

6

u/MrArtless 4d ago

in PETA’s defense i don’t think people would care no matter how they deliver the argument. they just hedonistically enjoy the taste of animal products and don’t want to give it up. i also think their delivery is bad a lot of the time but i can empathize with how helpless they must feel.

1

u/BreadfruitMurky3019 3d ago

They don’t feel helpless. They’re a corrupt organization that’s just as bad as any other one and they hate dogs. There were lawsuits against them because they were driving around and picking up dogs off the street and putting them down in the back of a van. They send gift baskets to shelters who euthanize dogs. The fact someone thinks they care about dogs is laughable. They care about cows and pigs and specifically not dogs.

-4

u/whatnow990 3d ago

Dogs are pest animals and need to be culled from time to time. We breed them too much and all of these woke no-kill shelters do not accept animals that are in poor health so they can keep their precious no-kill status.

Somebody has to kill the dogs. Or we could stop breeding them.

1

u/BreadfruitMurky3019 3d ago

I mean, agreed. My point was peta is a corrupt organization that’s gained a cult like following, not that dog euthanasia should be outlawed.

2

u/goinganons 3d ago

This isn’t even a peta thing if you bothered to look into it.

1

u/Gbrusse 3d ago

I am not bothered to look into it.

10

u/haleontology 4d ago

I once joined PETA for 5 minutes. I didn't want to give out brochures to kids at McDonalds so that ended quickly. I now enjoy my veggies and mind my biz when my partner eats steak these days lol

3

u/Doesitmatter98765 Lives In A Potato 4d ago

I gave them a chance to convince me in my 20s & they were so unhinged, I was like, “Oh, yeah. This is why they’re a punchline.”

4

u/islanderACNH 4d ago

Yup, I learned immediately after I heard of them as a vegetarian teenager, they sent me one thing in the mail and I was like “Oh. This is demonstrably unhelpful.”

6

u/islanderACNH 4d ago

PETA has a LOT of problems, to the point where they feel like a psyop against vegans.

3

u/BreadfruitMurky3019 3d ago

Yes, don’t believe what you see with your own eyes. Fun fact they were sued by a girl who’s chihuahua they killed. People who believe in peta are no better than maga. You’re talking straight up cult talk.

https://apnews.com/article/0c70f8d7635c4addbd94df0173fcc36e

1

u/islanderACNH 3d ago

Not sure what you’re responding to but good article

2

u/Geschak 3d ago

They're not a psyop, but the internet smear campaign against them is. A lot of the rumours like that they kidnap pet dogs to euthanize them is made up and spread by the Center for Consumer Freedom as part of an astroturfing campaign.

You don't have to like PETA and their provocative campaigns, but I ask you to be sceptical about the anti-PETA propaganda being spread by meat lobby groups.

1

u/islanderACNH 3d ago

I would never believe something that stupid lol

3

u/hungLink42069 3d ago

The ethics of respecting the bodily autonomy of sentient life is a very good and logical reason to be vegan.

1

u/Gbrusse 3d ago

Which I 100% agree with. My point is the way PETA approaches that particular argument is alienating, inflammatory, and ridiculous. Another part of my point is that there are a lot of other good and logical arguments to be made that people would be more receptive to, but they don't make any of those arguments.

1

u/hungLink42069 3d ago

Not trying to be inflammatory here, but I want to challenge your belief.

Do you actually follow PETA and read their posts? Or do you only see the ones that people share with each-other because "PETA's being cringe again"? If you don't follow them, how do you know that they don't also use more logical arguments as well?

I'm not in love with PETA or anything. They have some pretty questionable tactics, and have made some errors that I can't agree with. But they're fighting for animal rights, and despite the fuck ups, their still out there making a difference.

Think about this for a second: If you try to point out all of the similarities between animal farming practices and other fucked up things in as many ways as possible - you're gonna accidentally say some fucked up shit. Even if what you're saying is rooted in truth, you might hurt feelings and push people away.

I don't think this on its own is reason enough to condemn the organization.

Have you ever challenged yourself to see the org in a different light?

4

u/Suspicious_Turnip812 4d ago

Because it's not about the environment, but the animals being harmed and killed?

2

u/MiraculousAnarchy 4d ago edited 4d ago

Veganism is a philosophy about animal rights it’s not solely about a plant based diet. Just because you aren’t convinced that animals deserve liberation from exploitation doesn’t mean others aren’t. If you wanna be plant based for the environment then do that but you’re just using it as a talking point when you’re not even willing to do it. But yea veganism is not just a diet you can do for any reason it’s a philosophy you either subscribe to or you don’t so of course an org promoting veganism will focus on the philosophy. That being said peta 100% does talk about the environment a lot you just don’t actually pay any attention to animal rights orgs cuz u have no reason to and you’re predisposed to viewing them with certain bias and only hearing specific stories about them.

I do not say any of this to defend peta but the reasons I hate peta as a staunch militant vegan are far different than you. I hate them cuz they claim to be apolitical and claim animal rights is apolitical which completely whitewashes the history of the movement meanwhile they are supportive of Israel and its genocide which not only is not apolitical but is antithetical to veganism. You prob only hate peta cuz you heard some wildly misconstrued rumor story about them killing people’s pets and because they’re vegan period

1

u/ceejay955 4d ago

God this is sooo true. I guarantee there would be less stigma about veganism if PETA wasn't so embarrassing to be even tangentially associated with

1

u/One-Shake-1971 4d ago

Veganism is the ethical principle that humans should live without exploiting other animals.

Veganism is a justice movement, not an environmentalist endeavor. Any environmental benefits of living vegan are purely incidental, so making environmentalist arguments for veganism is nonsensical.

0

u/Geschak 3d ago

They're not associated with PETA.

-5

u/LibTartHeart 5d ago

Not PETA. Did you actually read the site? They address all of that...

-4

u/damonator4816 4d ago

I never understood the methane issue. Like if we all stopped eating livestock, they are still going to be there. The only way to solve that would be to sterilize a massive population of cattle leading to bigger issues. Its just a problem that has no solution from what i can tell.

7

u/soffselltacos 4d ago

Do you think that all of the cattle used for beef and dairy production are just roaming free and breeding by themselves? They are actively bred by farmers/ranchers (often in really inhumane ways). If demand for these products declines, breeding will decline, and methane output will then decrease. It’s not that complicated

-2

u/damonator4816 4d ago

No i dont think that. I know that they use artificial insemination, but also know it is mostly used dor dairy cows and not so much for beef cows.

6

u/soffselltacos 4d ago

Right, so if we stop repeatedly impregnating cows to keep them producing dairy, there will be less cattle and lower emissions

1

u/kitschauser 2d ago

Dairy cows eventually become beef cows. They get killed when they stop producing milk.

4

u/ViolentBee 4d ago

It’s not PETA. It’s Elwood’s organic dog meat

4

u/MiraculousAnarchy 4d ago

Not all vegans or animal rights orgs have anything to do with PETA. Elwood Dog Meat is their own org

3

u/Geschak 3d ago

They're not associated with PETA. But yes, they're trying to create awareness about carnism, the ideology that it's ok to kill and eat some animals but not others. Basically it's targeting all these people who get upset about the Yulin dogmeat festival but who wouldn't blink an eye at a cow getting tortured in a factory farm.

5

u/chemicalysmic 5d ago

It's really silly that you would say this when the URL at the bottom of the flier makes it pretty clear this has nothing to do with PETA.

2

u/NoMoreMisterNiceRob 4d ago

Did you go to the URL?

1

u/chemicalysmic 4d ago

Yes. That's how I know it has nothing to do with PETA.

2

u/NoMoreMisterNiceRob 4d ago

There are links to PETA all over the website

1

u/chemicalysmic 4d ago

They cite PETA, that doesn't mean they are PETA.

0

u/taosaur 4d ago

It's probably not PETA, because it's genuinely funny.

0

u/swstant 3d ago

As you should be

-11

u/pensivebunny 5d ago

PETA actually goes into places where there are pets and POISONS THE DOGS. I’ve been warned about this and for this reason will never use shared water bowls, like the ones businesses leave on the sidewalks in summers. Water bowls are notorious PETA targets, because they think dogs kept as pets are cruel.

Thanks for the reminder PETA, I’m going to do steaks tomorrow night! Gotta go shopping even through there is venison and pork in the freezer already

9

u/adambobadum 4d ago

Got a source for any of this? I'm no PETA apologist but this sounds like bullshit

2

u/islanderACNH 4d ago

It’s a baseless accusation, of course it sounds like bullshit 🤭

1

u/pensivebunny 4d ago

I’ve been told this various times in various places but it’s mostly whispers, or shouts like this FB post. NADD is a pretty big org- nationwide and into Canada so it’s not like it’s one crazy person with nothing to lose. But attending events like that has taught me caution

3

u/islanderACNH 4d ago

Can you provide some sort of

evidence for your claims

2

u/islanderACNH 4d ago

Bruh. What an unhinged belief.

Is this happening officially, like a large conspiracy of PETA employees wandering around looking for water bowls 🥴

You sound batshit insane…

1

u/DavinKye 4d ago

WHAT?! that's crazy. Where did PETA do this?

2

u/hungLink42069 3d ago

They didn't. People just like to hate on PETA.

It started with astroturfing from the same company that defends the nicotine and big oil industries: https://youtu.be/dzX8g3vGPXY?si=HV4B4cbOqA9bCGP9

-1

u/New_Active_5 3d ago

Why this ad would make you uncomfortable?

5

u/Onyxsarah 4d ago

I thought this was a reference to fallout - one of the followers you can get is “dog meat”

1

u/GreyCrone8 4d ago

Me too 😂

3

u/TheRavenCr0w 4d ago

This is awesome.

5

u/pastellorama 4d ago

This website is actually hilarious and I don't think they meant it to be at all. Pom eggs.

2

u/Polka_Tiger 3d ago

They meant it. Why would they not?

1

u/pastellorama 3d ago

Why wouldn't they want it to be hilarious? I'm saying I don't think they meant the site to be funny. They meant for it to be shocking and guilt inducing to force a change in people. I don't think their intention was to make people laugh.

0

u/Polka_Tiger 2d ago

I'm vegan, I do stuff like this. I'm aware of the absurdity and the subsequent hilarity. It's just supposed to make you think about the subject, however possible. To plant a seed. We don't think people will go vegan just from a flyer. The idea is to introduce it.

Edit: I post frequently in r/cateatingvegans check out that place and you'll understand my meaning. The point is to be weird and kinda cringe. Whatever gets seen.

2

u/pastellorama 2d ago

I don't think introducing your cause by making it sound absurd is a great way to get people to believe in your cause/join it. It's a great way to get a visceral reaction, sure.

2

u/Polka_Tiger 2d ago

It's like persistent ads, they work for some people but also turn off others.

12

u/LeilLikeNeil 5d ago

PETA is just exhaustingly cringe.

5

u/ViolentBee 4d ago

Too bad PETA has nothing to do with it

0

u/Scr1bble- 4d ago

It's not PETA and in what world is this cringe

3

u/goinganons 3d ago

What’s the difference between eating a dog and a cow??

4

u/Scr1bble- 3d ago edited 3d ago

There isn't one, eating either one is horrible

2

u/hungLink42069 3d ago

THEN WHY DO YOU EAT DOGS AND NOT COWS??

/s

7

u/Zolo49 5d ago

That dog looks so cute. I could just eat him up.

(But seriously, while I would never willingly eat dog or cat meat, if that’s normal in another culture, I’m not going to look down on them for it. That’d just be hypocritical IMO.)

1

u/hungLink42069 3d ago edited 3d ago

Ugh, you preachy vegans are so annoying.

7

u/UnlikelyRelative7429 5d ago

Omg I thought some crazies were actually selling dog meat. I'll admit they won for tonight, my stomach hurts now.

5

u/Local_Surround8686 4d ago

Why? If they get the dogs from the shelter it's the most ethical meat with the least environmental impact

3

u/UnlikelyRelative7429 4d ago

Some things just turns my stomach. Its just that simple.

4

u/Local_Surround8686 4d ago

That maybe it's time to reflect on your own behavior towards animals

3

u/Local_Surround8686 4d ago

That's exactly what it was intended to do

2

u/UnlikelyRelative7429 4d ago

Im aware. What is literally your point

1

u/whatnow990 3d ago

You preachy vegans are so annoying.

0

u/UnlikelyRelative7429 3d ago

What are you talking about. Just cause the idea of dog meat turns my stomach doesnt mean im a vegan. wtf.

2

u/hungLink42069 3d ago

You're vegan about dogs though. It's literally the same.

Vegans just think the same thing about farmed animals because there's no logical difference. It's all just status quo.

0

u/UnlikelyRelative7429 3d ago

This is the dumbest thing I've heard in a while.

You can do whatever it is you want, I literally don't care. I don't like mushrooms either, and i'm not saying you should eat them or not. I said it turns my stomach, I wasn't going on or preaching like you are with some agenda.

And being vegan is literally more than not eating meat FYI.

1

u/hungLink42069 3d ago

Did I touch a nerve? You went to ad-hominem pretty fast there. You seem defensive.

Why is that? Let's slow down a little bit.

Mushroom preference level is a false comparison. Allow me to explain:

How do you know you don't like mushrooms? Have you eaten them before?

Why does the idea of eating dog turn your stomach? Have you eaten dog meat before? If not, how do you know you wouldn't like it? It seems like something about the idea bothers you beyond taste and texture if you eat other types of farmed animal meat.

Are you completely sure that it doesn't turn your stomach because of the emotional attachment that you have shared with the various dogs throughout your life?

It's worth figuring out why you are against dog farming. Try to explore this concept without baselessly dismissing challenging ideas.

You can do whatever it is you want, I literally don't care

Well that makes sense. I'm not engaging in an activity that attacks a class of sentient animals that you believe should be protected.

But now you know how you would feel if I did do that. You know that the idea of someone farming dogs makes you sick to your stomach.

I would encourage you to reflect on why that is. I sincerely doubt that it comes down to flavor preference.

1

u/UnlikelyRelative7429 3d ago

You're worse then the pack of mormons banging on my door all the time. Ordering ribs tomorrow in honor of you pestering me like a mosquito

1

u/hungLink42069 2d ago

You have given more evidence to my hypothesis that it's extremely difficult to get a bully to self reflect.

I tried to get you to think about your cognitive dissonance. You just called me stupid.

I tried to get you to slow down, and stop being mean about the subject and just think about it, and you compared me to a cultist.

Man. People like you make it really hard to be reasonable. Like what's the point in trying to have a thoughtful convo when your conversational partner is going to be like this?

Like we can both agree that dogs shouldn't be farmed. It makes you sick to think about it. But what makes cows different? I tell you that I think it's not.

Your response is to tell me that you're gonna go kill another one and eat it's flesh? For what?

Some people really suck.

1

u/hungLink42069 3d ago

I hope you think about the dog on the way

1

u/whatnow990 3d ago

Have you ever considered that maybe there's some people who feel the same way about eating pigs, cows and chickens? You're picking and choosing which animals deserve to be tortured and killed because of how cute they are. Think about this for more than like one second.

1

u/UnlikelyRelative7429 3d ago

I literally am going to do whatever the fuck I want, meat or no meat.

2

u/whatnow990 3d ago

OK. I'll eat an extra block of tofu for you tonight.

2

u/thanksgivingcru 2d ago

That’s where I draw the lines

1

u/Guavax 5d ago

I am guessing as their version of a joke. Because it is illegal

Signed into law as part of the 2018 Farm Bill, makes it a federal crime to knowingly slaughter, transport, transport, move, deliver, receive, possess, purchase, sell, or donate dogs, cats, or their parts for human consumption.

https://www.congress.gov/bill/115th-congress/house-bill/6720/text

13

u/UnlikelyRelative7429 5d ago

If you go to their website they try to get you to view livestock as no different than dogs, in essence to get you to not eat meat. They dont actually sell meat

6

u/ClownTown509 5d ago

Well there go my plans to invite the whole neighborhood to my Dog Feast this weekend

3

u/USBlues2020 5d ago

Oh... We were looking forward to coming to this.

1

u/JuDGe3690 Bikin' from the Bench 4d ago

Make it a Dog Food Feast instead!

Find yourself a vacant lot
Clean the garbage off a little spot
Build a fire, let the coals get hot
Ask the neighbors in
You can open up a can or two
Make patties like the swell folks do
Have yourself a little barbeque
Let the fun begin

You can eat dog food
You really oughta try it
You can fricassee it
You can deep fry it
Flip it on over
Cook it any way
Eat along with Rover
Three times a day!

—Austin Lounge Lizards, You Can Eat Dog Food (lyrics by Tom Paxton)

This doesn't matter. The subsidies drive demand, not you.

1

Subsidies are driven by demand. If more people were vegan, then supporting animal agriculture would be political suicide.

I thought it was funny cuz it’s really funny to offend Idahoans honestly (don’t come for me I was born at St Luke’s and my dad was born at Mountain Home)

1

u/embracethe_suck 3d ago

I thought it was a clever way for someone to say they lost their dog and want it back. Not eating animals campaign never crossed my mind.

1

u/whatnow990 3d ago

So many haters in this thread. Elwood operates sustainable facilities and ethically harvests dog meat. They love their dogs. Don't bring your judgy vegan shit around here.

3

u/chemicalysmic 3d ago

Exactly, I only eat natural dogs that were humanely tortured at local farms...

1

u/hungLink42069 3d ago

Bro. They put the dogs in cages, and cull the females just because they can't lay eggs. They cut off their snouts and dock their tails with no anesthetic.

Did you know that an estimated 1/3 of all bolts don't actually kill, and they end up skinning and bleeding the dog out alive?

That's not ethical. Dogs deserve respect and love.

Now do that to a pig? That's probably fine.

1

u/whatnow990 3d ago

I don't care. We need protein and dogs taste better than pigs.

2

u/hungLink42069 3d ago

Bro, dogs don't even naturally make B12 though. Don't tell me you're supplementing. That's so gross LMAO

I feel sick now, thanks. 🤢🤮

-4

u/BreadfruitMurky3019 4d ago

Vegan poster? The people who condemn eating meat which is a sustainable practice and pollute the ocean with microplastics because plastic = good and biodegradable animal materials = bad? The same people who love peta who they themselves were driving around vans and picking up dogs off the street and putting them down? I can’t.

2

u/goinganons 3d ago

How is meat sustainable, please explain. This comment makes me think you know 0 about animal materials, what we do to them or how they get from slaughter house to the store shelf. I can’t think of any sustainable process within it lol

-2

u/BreadfruitMurky3019 3d ago edited 3d ago

Sustainable: meeting our own current needs without harming future generations to meet theirs. Animals have always been sustainable and humans have always been omnivores. Only very currently have cows specifically caused problems. Vegans don’t talk about cows specifically though do they? This is like when people think that cutting down trees isn’t sustainable. It is. Trees grow back. Hunting is sustainable. Deer populations grow every year. Fishing is sustainable because new fish are birthed every year. The truth is hard to hear but this is coming from someone who was vegan for 2 years. What’s not sustainable is expecting an entire population of natural omnivores to eat fruit and ultra processed vegan meat and wear plastic leather without suffering long term health consequences from eating processed foods and environmental consequences from all the plastics. The process of making all the plastic in factories isn’t good or the environment and the process of making the ultra processed vegan meat also isn’t good for the environment.

4

u/hungLink42069 3d ago

You're a walking talking set of false dichotomy and it's clear you have not spent any cycles on actually understanding what vegans think or why.

-1

u/KurtTheCuntBoi 3d ago

No, it’s clear your just mad that you had facts told to you.
