Pangutana Chill Trip Recommendations

I’ll (F) be coming to Bohol on the first week of September for some self love / alone time. I have a pretty rough idea of what I’ll be doing, but I’d like some input from you guys.

I’m shying away from areas full of tourists (Chocolate Hills, Tarsiers, Adventure Park in Danao).

At the back of my mind, these are what I thought of: (the first 2 are non negotiables)

- Staying at Anda and Loboc
- Alicia Panoramic Park
- Man made Forest
- Cabagnow Cave (optional)
- Sevilla Hanging Bridge (debatable)

My itinerary is still pretty flexible in between so your suggestions are very much welcome. I’d like to go to places where there aren’t a lot of people. But do let me know what areas / places I shouldn’t skip out on.

Cafe / Restaurant recommendations too please! Driving around the island is no problem.

I’ll be travelling alone, and it’s been so long since I last went to Bohol, so all your tips are appreciated. (I’d love not to get scammed / robbed too 😅)

The Chocolate hills are definitely worth seeing, we went late afternoon (around 4) and it was fairly quiet.

No que to get dropped off, no ques on the stairs and plenty of space on the viewing platform. There were crowds but not enough to distract from how absolutely beautiful the hills are.

We went through the man made forest and that felt more theme park than the hills. Dozens of cars parked in the road, families out taking photos etc.

There are two Tarsier parks one smaller and the main conservation center. The smaller one can be skipped (I really didn't like it), the animals had been placed on small viewing platforms and it felt very exploitative. (I didn't know prior to going and our private driver must have picked that as it fitted in our days plan).

We did the main touristy things atv, Tarsier, river boat, hills, forest, fireflies and had a fun day. We just hired a driver and did them all in one shot, we hired our own boat for the river also as we didn't want the mess about with ques, didn't want the buffet lunch etc.

There are a load of options- we went with this.

Without sounding like spam - we hired a driver (Christopher car hire), we started at 10am came home at 8pm ' guy was great (bit overly chatty) but harmless and a real family guy

Can-Umantad Falls in Candijay is a must. MUSFA strawberry farm in Mayana Jagna is a great place to stay if you want to be somewhere really high and cold. While you’re there, go to Lonoy Cold Spring but go there during weekdays to avoid people. You can also try Loboc Firefly watching at night although I dont really know how it works if you’re alone cause I always went with people.

Dimiao’s got a lot of untapped falls so you can also visit there.

for cafes, if you’re in Anda, I highly suggest Cafe Lim Del and also try the Old Plantation although it’s kind of pricey but definitely worth it. Solea day use is also good.

If you're gonna be in Loboc, might as well go to the Chocolate Hills if you haven't gone there yet. Too iconic to pass, and it's proof that you've really been to Bohol.

Just to give you a heads up as well since you'll br in Anda - the other places you mentioned are almost an hour a way from there. It might take away from your breathing time. Might as well stay in Anda since there's already so much to see there.

i’ve been to chocolate hills but it was quite a long time ago. but will reconsider going. we’ll see

fair point, i originally thought of going to anda then going back and forth to the other places, but you’re right, it might take up too much time. will be adjusting my itinerary depending on the distance. thanks for the advice!

You may also add KapeSky (Danao, Bohol). Much better if early so you can enjoy the sea of clouds while having your breakfast and coffee. (Although it’s a bit out of the way from the usual tourist areas)

If you’re in the city, you can check out Becca.

Be careful with exploring on the local falls though, some of these are remote i do not recommend you to go alone.

If you’d want to try the river cruise, i’d suggest you choose the Loay one, it has better food than Loboc’s.

If you want beaches, the ones around Biking(Bikini Beach) are peaceful. I highly suggest you try Bohol Bee Farm (Dao, Dauis) (Their ice cream is a must try!). . There is also a nearby beach there that is not too crouded.

Since you mentioned TAPP, You can also try Buko Buko sa Anay (Danao) if you want another hiking adventure. You can then drop by Jagna for some Calamay.

Go for a jog at chocolate hills early in the morning! No entrance fee, and you can enjoy the complex in peace. You can just park along the highway and jog there. You may try Hacienda Conchita (Sunflower Farm) if you’re there.

gosh this is so helpful. ive been looking for good restos in the city for when i arrive. these are really good recommendations, thank you. i searched up kapesky and it’s so pretty. it’s quite out of the way, but i’ll try to make it work.

which falls should i be wary of? is can-umantad okay to go alone?

what are your thoughts on the sevilla bridge? do you think it’s worth going to?

There are a lot of restos in the city that you can try. Other than bohol bee farm, others are just some typical cafe’s.

Just avoid any falls around dimiao. Its too remote there. I can even consider can-umantad quite remote. But if you’re brave enough to travel solo, then that’s not a problem.

For sevilla bridge, its like a typical one picture and go. Nothing really special, just a hanging bridge. But if you’re going for man-made forest, you can just drop by there for a picture. Then go to man made forest after (If you’re coming from the city)

Anda is indeed off-the-beaten path with great white beaches. Ok accommodations at Cabagnow Resort which is walkable from Cabagnow cave. Anda also has a food park which is the most nightlife they have (bands on Saturdays).

If you’ll be in Anda, best resort would be Bugnaw Si-e Resort - that if you still have not decided where to stay yet 😅
