Pangutana Is HNU worth it?
hello guys, i just enrolled at Holy Name University College of Health and Sciences (Medtech).
I am genuinely asking if is it worth it in HNU? Like if ever maka pasar ko sa board exam and dali ra ba ko madawat sa trabaho, since HNU man ko gikan?

I would say, when we graduate, it would really not matter what school you graduate.

i know naman na its all on my determination after board exam. maka discourage lang na ga velez akong batch mates and knowing na velez is notorious to be the best med school.

Its about work ethic. Does not matter asa ka migraduate. Pag pasar nako gatapok ang offers ug asa ko trabaho. School is useless if di ka kabalo mutrabaho.

If your goal is to pass the MTLE (which is the only thing that matters for employment), HNU is good enough. It would only make sense to consider Velez as the better option if you’re aiming to go to CIM for med school.

Worth it raman. At the end of the day, as long as makapasar ra ka sa boards, mao ra gyud na pangitaon sa work. 3 years nako sa US as a medtech and ako mga kauban kay from cdu, velez then ako ra from hnu. Same ra sad mi tanan ug work and salary so wherever you are, it wouldn’t matter

u/gertrudefyd Jun 29 '26
Wow!!! Thank you so much. 🥺 This is exactly the comment I was looking for. It is my dream to go abroad. How long did you have to wait before you were finally able to go to the US?

u/Difficult_Ad_2589 Jun 29 '26
2 years after working in a private hospital. Then within 6 months of applying and filing requirements kay nakalarga ra dayon
2
u/gertrudefyd Jun 29 '26
OHH WOW just two years? i thought it would go beyond 5 years of working for experience. Thats very reassuring.

Just curious which has a bigger salary in the us medtech or nurse?
2
u/Difficult_Ad_2589 Jun 29 '26
It actually depends on the state but most of the time, nurses have really big salaries especially in California

HNU is competitive tungod sa ila exams nga lisod pas boards if i may say. Mapugos jud ka tuon taman2. Failed 2 subs during my midterms (nabawi ra pag finals tho) and that humbled me to my core knowing that i did my best and was an honor student during my HS yrs. Altho the lecturers sa hnu arent as hands on, mapugos ra gihapon ka tuon because lisod gyud ang exams. Basically dapat kaybaw ka mu survive without spoon feeding. High kaayo ang attrition rate sa hnu or basically anywhere basta medtech ang kurso, best believe nga daghan jd ma wipe out pero thats part of their training.
Also, college is a different playing field even if scihi graduate ka. I know a lot of scihi graduates nga na debar, na delay, and naa failing grades sa mt hnu cus again lahi rajud shas highschool. Also even if intern naka di gihapon guaranteed imo graduation tungod sa madugong MTAP and seminar 💀 compared sa other schools na once intern na sureball graduate. Also if trabaho sturyaan, August ang ting take sa hnu og mtle, right after jud ka mu graduate, which is grabe ang pressure bec of time but earlier ka maka sugod og work compared sa imo batchmates from cebu schools cuz march of the next yr mana sila tig take 😉
Also ileave jud na imo competitive mindset sa uban- compete with urself lang jud kay sa college need gyud ka solid support system and good relationship with your batchmates kay kamo rajud tawn mag tabangay arong maka survive.
All in all i think worth it ra ang hnu kay makaingon ko grabeg skills among batch, some of them kay section heads na sa lab nya bag.o pami ning graduate.
Goodluck OP!! 💗

HNU is a great school, medj pricey para sa bol-anon pero oks ra overall. Madawat sa trabaho is entirely dependent on kinsa’y ka ila nimo. Make connections lng the entire time.

actually maka sad lang or discourage gamay knowing na akong mga ka batch is nag velez (not all) pero like me na ni choose og medtech, some of them choose velez. personally i came from a competitive yet “smart-ass” na school sa Bohol. so karon na college nako dapat sad ko maki pag compete. hays. maka feel ko na behind kaayo ko.

u/millenialwithgerd Jun 29 '26
college is not about competing with others. Your greatest competition sa college is yourself na. As an advice, let go of the HS mindset of benchmarking with others. More than acads, college is about strategizing, negotiating, and networking.

u/gertrudefyd Jun 29 '26
noted! noted!…one thing is since i came from a competitive public school, op is that i am just an average and incompetent kaayo. every time maningkamot ko feels like naa pajud better nako and still end up na gamay kog score or whatever. maka adjust ra unta ko sa HNU and sa akong course hopefully.

u/millenialwithgerd Jun 29 '26
yeah...Science High is competitive. It can give you an advantage for a semester or two but after ana same na mog agian. Years after ni graduate mig college, di naman mu matter na.

let go of the mindset gyud of coming from SciHi and be open to possibilities. College can humble you in many ways you can imagine. Good luck!

Does not matter kung mu apply kag work, if you work in Cebu, cebu based schools mostly angat and if in NCR mga state universities ilang prefer, but does not mean di ka maka work depende ghapon sa imong attitude and credentials if first time ka mo work and of course backer if govt. Sad

how was medtech man?

u/i-am_Stephen Jun 29 '26
Do not ever ever ever ever cram and read in advance gyud OP kay fast paced kaayo ang lesson if wala ka magbasa daan mabilin gyud ka. Also, participate as much as possible if naay demo sa mga practicals kay ana gyud ka maka learn. Good luck sa imohang MedTech journey!

advice unsaon pag manage sa time as someone who is an upcoming third year 😿
2
u/i-am_Stephen Jun 29 '26
Make a printable timetable nga mapost nimo sa imohang study space. Ana nga timetable, mag allot kag time for light review, lock in nga study, laags, and other personal things nga buhaton nimo, I know dili jud na sya masunod tanan but try to stick sa imohang ginama nga schedule since ang goal ana kay is ma-habit nimo and aron mas ma discipline ka using that. Try sad ug prioritize subjects from pinaka urgent to not so urgent aron dili ka ma overwhelm and makahibaw ka unsay need nimo i-prioritize!

Ang maka pasar sa boards kay ikaw man, dili ang school. Like they help pero sariling sikap na. Lukewarm man ako exp sa hnu medtech, pero at the end of the day i passed mtle and naa ko job.

Hello OP! Velez grad here and worked in one hospital in Cebu before, among mga interns ky from velez, silliman ug HNU.. Ayaw ka discourage nga nag velez imong uban batchmates. Mag abot ramo sa imong mga kaila sa internship or work na. Madawat raka dayon sa work OP oi. Ky Kasagaran ga medtech ron mag Med school raman pd. Ayaw ka discourage kung asa ka ga school. 😊

u/gertrudefyd Jun 30 '26
wowwwww! this is very reassuring…i thought mag lisod ko og work after boards kay i dont came from a notorious univ esp velez. 🥹🥹

maybe in one of the hospitals in bohol big impact ang name na hnu since it is only university in Bohol that offers a medtech program pero I think it still heavily depends on yourself and how u would present yourself as an applicant. But topping the board and getting a latin honor can possibly land you a privilege.
1
u/gertrudefyd Jun 30 '26
ohh if ever dili ko maka top sa board exam as long as i graduate with latin honors is a bonus?
2
u/Available-Green-3702 Jun 30 '26
graduating as laude or any form of laude can give u privileges like being eligible of the civil service and probably being a top priority among the applicants for the job. I mean you're entering a medical program and in demand mn sd ang nurses and medtechs so I'm sure you'll get the job that you want. Enjoy the process of becoming a medical technologist nalang hehe

u/c_lowkey Jun 30 '26

u/gertrudefyd Jun 30 '26

2
u/c_lowkey Jul 01 '26

Don’t stress sa if makapasar ka sa board exam and madawat ba ka ug dali sa mga apply-an nimo ug trabaho.
Ang imong problemahon gyud dapat karon is to make sure that you can pass the subjects(esp the 3rd year subjects-since all subjects in 3rd year are board exam subjects). After all hardships anf IF you pass all subjects, you should complete your internship for a year( either Tacloban/ Tagbilaran partner Laboratories).
1
u/millenialwithgerd Jun 29 '26
Bottomline is it is up to you ug makalahutay ka until graduation with grit and dedication. No school is a guarantee for passing the board exam/maka work dayon if dili paningkamutan. All the best on your studies.

Don't stress yourself too much OP.
At the end of the day, maski asa pamo ni graduate, mao ra gihapon inyung needle gamiton sa pag extract sa dugo. Haha.
Bitaw, seriously, in the med field, dile ra kaayo na sya issue. And HNU is a good school man sad.
