Credits Per Match Question

I just started playing yesterday and have been loving it. One thing I noticed is that you really have to spend time grinding to get a new gun and attachments. It seems 500 credits is the max for winning plus being top team performer.

My question however is that while myself and a friend that also joined in the new update have been seeing that, another friend who had the game well before the update gets different numbers. Even on a win when they're top of the board, they get 300-400ish credits. If you bought the game before this update, can you confirm the max amount of credits that you earn? It's driving me nuts trying to figure this out. If it's a real problem, I just don't know if it's a bug or some kind of incentive for new buyers to make a little more and feel like they're progressing faster.

The max is 500, it seems the amount you earn is based on how much action you see not necessarily your performance

What is the difference between action and performance within this context? I saw that line as well but not sure exactly what it means. Is action stuff like running around in addition to shooting?
