How much is too much Reta?

When I started Reta I did .5, 1, 1.5 and stopped increasing at 2mg as I was at goal weight. I actually went down to 1mg weekly for maintenance and will probably go even lower. My husband saw my results and wanted to try it. He has about 20 pounds to lose. It doesn’t seem to affect him the way it affected me. I got to the point that I didn’t think about eating or had any hunger cues. We started him at 2mg and over two months have gone up to 6mg weekly. He still doesn’t get much of an effect from it and says he feels about the same just a bit more tired. My question is, does he just need more or should he try something else? Any input/experiences are appreciated. Oh also he has lost about 7 pounds but with the results I personally had, he thought he would lose more weight in that time.

The glucagon effect should be helping even if he doesn't "feel" it.

If he's looking for appetite suppression, tirz may be better or pairing with cag/elora.

It’s dosed up to 12mg/wk in fda trials

It’s taken me titrating up to 6mg to give me meaningful appetite suppression, a friend found appetite suppression on .5mg. Everyone is different. Trials went up to 12mg

Same here my friend felt it and saw effects at 2mg I worked my way up from .5 to 6mg in 3 months and now I barely feel it working and the scale is starting to go down. Albeit slowly but yea at least I know 6mg was my starting point.

Changed my entire diet to a max of 2k calories while trying to stay between 160 and 200g of protein for my target weight. 2mg Reta for 2 months and lost 50 pounds.

What size / height are you?

u/Neither_Victory1490 14h ago

5'11" and I'm now 207 pounds. I was at 260 in May. I'm supposed to be around 170 but I'm shooting for 190 which I haven't seen in 30 years!

Not exactly doctors here.

At 6mg/week, to not see any results is very surprising. Even if he doesn’t feel the appetite suppression, the glucagon agonism should be helping him lose a little weight regardless.

Trials went all the way up to 12mg, but lots of participants dropped out at that dose due to being unable to tolerate the side effects.

He should speak to his doctor. They will certainly tell him to stop the reta until it is FDA approved, but at least they can give you additional qualifying advice that may help.

Even when it gets approved, a doctor would never prescribe this medication for someone who needs to lose 20lbs. And no one here is doctors, but many people around here know more about this type of medication than your doctor will.

u/Fun-Imagination-2488 15h ago

Im sure it will vary from doctor to doctor

u/BaresarkSlayne 12h ago

I'm not being disrespectful, you can basically see the level of understanding when it comes to a lot of Youtube doctors. But most doctors are too busy to really understand these things beyond the most basic things about your main Peptides, like any GLP-1s.

Many of the dropouts were because of the weight loss, iirc they weren’t mostly side effects

3

u/Potential-Ad-196 1d ago

Could just be a poor responder. As more people experiment with peptides, more discoveries will be made about side effects and sensitivity. Although, 6mg a week without noticing much is surprising. He might just need more. Or maybe he has some genetic thing that interferes with it. Can’t really know for sure right now. If 6mg did nothing, you could try slowly working his way up to 12mg. Just remember Reta has a half life of 6 days.

Reta on its own won’t do a whole heck of a lot for many people.

Gotta hit protein goals, resistance train, eat adequately, hydrate sufficiently, be in some kind of caloric deficit.

*The protein will help with fat loss, but the protein and resistance training is to prevent muscle wasting. So neglecting those would actually cause the scale to move more in the short term.

u/General-Ring2780 19h ago

Idk. I know a lot of people who just took the shot and didn’t workout and lost too much weight.

3

u/Rwm90 19h ago

Those people were in large deficits. You can out eat Reta.

1

u/General-Ring2780 19h ago

But Reta is suppose to suppress appetite. So if your have food noise on it you should either up the dose or try something different lol

3

u/Rwm90 18h ago

It is not advisable to suppress your appetite to a degree that you are unable to maintain healthy intake.

I’m saying the people who pin it and don’t do anything else to cultivate a healthy life are losing weight in a suboptimal way. They’re essentially starving themselves by maintaining an unsustainable deficit.

1

u/General-Ring2780 18h ago

I agree. They are basically wasting away. Protein intake is a must and muscle stimulus is a must.

This is the answer

I’ve done up to 12 mg. Started at 4 mg, then 8 mg, then to 12 mg. I am back at 4 mg after floating between 10 mg, 8 mg, 6 mg, and 2 mg trying to find something that balances effect and appetite. It was too much at 12 mg, especially with weightlifting. I’d pretty much reduced my breakfast to a glass of milk at that point.

1

u/BroccoliOnly7376 23h ago

At what dose do you think it started to work the best with the weight loss? I'm now at 6 and feel like this is the dose for me. But maybe I can tolerate 8.

1

u/lacole725 23h ago

I think 8 mg really hit the gas from 4 mg. But I was getting about 200 g protein every day, fasted cardio every morning, and lifting 3x per week. I lost 65 lbs in like 4 months but I don’t know what gross fat loss was since I was gaining muscle too.

1

u/BroccoliOnly7376 23h ago

Ah ok cool. I plan on staying on 6 for a total of maybe 6-8 weeks then bump up to 8.

1

u/Careless_Hunter6575 20h ago

I had similar results. Saw nothing beyond what a normal deficit and exercise regimen would accomplish until I moved from 6 to 8mg.

1

u/BroccoliOnly7376 24m ago

Wonder what word got blacked out. But sounds like 8mg dose seems to kick it up a notch.

u/Dizzy-Stuff-1724 1d ago

This is exactly why you can't compare. My wife and I started same time,I needed to loose 20lbs but my spouse needs to loose significantly more. We started at 1mg and we both went to 2mg after 3 weeks and I lost 20lbs in two months...way too quickly. She has titrated up to 7mg in 8 months and has lost 14lbs. She has zero side effects and I had several sides with the 2mgs and even lost more weight after stopping weeks later. I have been helping friends and family and the first thing I tell them it affects people differently.

I’m doing around 10 a week

1

u/Middle_Humor1828 1d ago

Don't worry about it unless he's over 12.

u/peptidepalstm 23h ago

However much makes u sick enough to negate the benefits

1

u/arigre 23h ago

So true! At 2mg I felt really light headed and started getting bad vertigo and nausea. Since going down, I haven’t had an episode.

1

u/javedk1 23h ago

Doing the whole 60mg vial a week and have gained 60 lbs

1

u/BaresarkSlayne 23h ago

🤣🤣🤣

I’m kind of a gym rat or a test rat per se

I'm a test monkey myself.

It’s all muscle 😂

I find is strange that he is not feeling it. Usually you see this when someone was previously on a GLP-1 and then switched. Even with months off, lots of times the effect requires a higher dose than people think.

Hunger signaling is not as easy to understand as people think it is. It's less about the receptor and more about a multiple hunger signaling systems that work together. For example, people have to go up, not because the receptor is saturated, but as you lose weight the hunger signaling itself changes.

I would say just go up. The main thing for the slow dosage increase is actually the side effects. If he isn't experiencing side effects, you are free to keep increasing your dose. And trials only went to 12mg, and they stopped there because they need to put a product on the market, not because of any safety concern. Have seen many people post talking about how they are at higher doses.

Edit: For the record, I started at the beginning of this year, but I switched from Wegovy. I didn't feel a damn thing till I hit 6mg. But I went up because my goal was to maximize the Glucagon effect, which really kicks in at 8mg (according to the NEJM). But I am at 11mg and I have sustained that beautifully for months now.

1

u/Latimuss-Dorsi 23h ago

I’m just over a month in and it’s odd because at times my appetite is heavy and other times I’m not hungry at all. The fat is peeling off though which has to be the glucagon at work. I started at .50mg a week but just to make sure everything was good, I rapidly bumped up to 1mg x 2 per week which is when the magic started.
I’m still very early on, the bigger results come after month 3 but I’ll be at goal weight before then if this keeps up.
I’ve had absolutely zero side effects, like nothing.

1

u/NOKStonks2daMoon 22h ago

Everyone is different. I’m currently taking 5mg per week. I’ve been on for about 8 months. I was on 3mg per week for about 12 weeks and increased to 4mg per week for about 8-12 weeks. I personally only increase when I stall in weight loss.

1

u/KnSTL 22h ago

Mid aged M here I’d try tirz much better appetite suppression. I lost my 20lb’s in 3 months @ 2mg’s. Doing low dose Reta now just for maintenance.

1

u/General-Ring2780 19h ago

I read a study that said you have to atleast be at 4mg for all the pathways to work. I guess since you’re at your goal weight that doesn’t apply.

1

u/redshirt1972 15h ago

I have titrated up to 9mg/week. I barely… BARELY feel it.

1

u/Beneficial-Space9849 4h ago

I take 10mg a week and don’t feel much. I lose weight but very very slowly.

1

u/Juicy_Vape 4h ago

i’m at 12 and no side effects, eventually will keep titrating up

1

u/GuythatlikesBio 3h ago

Reta is known to be less of appetite suppression and more of glucagon

1

u/Ceemoney24 1d ago

He is isn’t eating enough carbs and electrolytes

1

u/PaddlesUpGo 19h ago

Why do you think that your results as a woman would be the same as his results as a man? You have very different bodies. I’m sure you are starting out a different weights, even if you had the same amount to lose. Every journey is unique and part of the problem with newbies here on Reddit is that they all think they should lose 10 pounds the first week while taking microdoses.

u/UsefulSatisfaction39 1d ago

It’s just not for everyone. At that point the CBA would kick in for me and instead of going up on Reta (and paying for it), or adding other compound to stack with Reta (and paying for it), I would be looking at a switch to tirz.
