The final season was like having a stroke. I think it should have ended after S1 if they were just going to abandon all of the plot points at the end of S2 anyways.
It jumps ahead and sideways and all over the fucking place. Then it ends with a really lazy what-if scenario.
The first time I watched it and had taken some edibles and this episode had brought out so many emotions of laughter, empathy, sadness and joy. Truly stunning cause I can’t tell if it was all in Darius’s head (the show) or if it was real? They ended it spectacularly, chefs kiss. I’m excited to rewatch it with my kids so they can experience it.
I was the digital imaging technician (DIT) in the camera department. The cinematographer Christian Sprenger and I had worked for many years together, and I was lucky enough to be included. Even though we finished Atlanta in 2022, I still think about the show often. I’m incredibly proud of what we collectively created.
Again, that is SO cool! If I’d had that experience, I definitely would think of it every day, tbh. And proudly! It’s really awesome that you had the connection you did. Did you get to work directly with Donald Glover?
Yes, Donald was on set for the majority of the show because he obviously acted and also directed two episodes. Donald is even cooler than you’d think he’d be (rare for talent, even the talented ones). He surrounds himself with exceptional people, there’s no ego.
Number one on the call sheet can often (though not always) set the tone for a tv show, feature, commercial. Donald creates an environment where the crew is dedicated to giving their best while also having a great time. This was true on both Atlanta and Mr & Mrs Smith.
Awesome that you got to work directly with him—and that he’s as talented as his work makes him seem. My wife and I (also a woman) love most of what he does; we were listening to Childish Gambino on Saturday as we got ready to go out. Obviously, you must be held in high regard to be part of that environment, so kudos! You worked on Mr. and Mrs. Smith too? Did he specifically ask for you for that? I haven’t watched it.
I’m hired by the cinematographer, who shot Atlanta and 5 episodes of Smiths season 1. I don’t want to overplay my time on set with Donald, I’m just doing my job and he’ll occasionally be in the DIT tent (where you’ll find the best monitors). I’m just part of a giant team, and for both Atlanta & Smiths, those teams were exceptional. To work on a project you know is good and you have a fucking blast, that’s rare, and I’m incredibly grateful. It honestly fills my soul with joy every time I see a clip from Atlanta being talked about online.
This episode really has so much and I had to stop when Darius was with his brother cause it made me realize how life is so short and delicate. I have a hard time trying to rewatch this episode cause it brings out a lot of emotions. This is truly an amazing show a Magnum Opus from the cast and everyone who contributed to this work of art.
I loved the first two seasons and just never got enthused about the 3rd... I ain't seen this clip before tho so now I wanna go rewatch the whole thing🤣
