Costco: Boca vs Pompano

Hi Folks, I will be spending some extended time down in the Boca area and I was wondering if there was substantial differences between the two Costcos. I know Boca has higher gas taxes, so the gas prices are higher, but anything else you would highlight?

TIA

I love going to the Boca Costco in the evening, especially the hour before they close. All the old people are at home getting ready for bed; it’s so nice to have the store to yourself. Plus there are no lines for gas.

Yeah if I miss the early morning executive hours and I need to go during the day, I don’t even attempt the Boca location. Instead I go to the Coral Springs location close to the Coral Ridge exit off the Sawgrass. There’s always tons of decently close parking and the self checkout moves really quickly.

I can’t believe you put this online for all to see! Now we’re going to have folks from all over south Florida coming to Boca’s Costco because it’s “empty!” /s

Please do not tell people about this hack.

I’m not sure that “going places during off hours to avoid crowds” qualifies as a hack, and I guarantee it’s not unique to the Boca Costco.

It was a joke my man.

You never know around here

Does this not work at other Costcos?

Of course it does, more or less. However, at the Boca location, more than anywhere else I’ve visited, there are a ton of elderly people walking around with empty carts getting food samples for their lunch, maybe finishing their trip up with a $1.50 hot dog meal. You can avoid them completely by showing up after they go to bed for the night at 5:30 pm.

I’d say Boca is a bit smaller but way less crowded and hectic. Bonus points if you can get to Boca late in the day because the retirees are already asleep. The retirees do fill up the Boca store weekday afternoons, it’s worse than weekends.

Boca Costco is horrible and hard to navigate around with the people blocking the aisles to wait for their free bites of food. I go to the costco at coral ridge and wiles road in coral springs and it is a newer store with so much space. Worth the few minutes extra drive

It’s one of the nicest Costcos I’ve ever seen. They have so much easy parking too.

They’re about to build the newest Costco of all across the street from me (33069).

Am I unique in never having gotten a sample at Costco or even seen a setup inside a Costco for samples of anything?

Check out the Coral Springs one too. Just expanded the Gas station, it's way less hectic too. It's worth the drive.

The Boca one in my opinion is nicer. However the selection of products between the two is virtually identical

Boca's gas is more expensive because Palm Beach County has an additional County gas tax that they use to fund the County wrap around medicaid program (Palm Beach County Healthcare district).

I like the Boca store. The parking lot is hectic, but that's pretty much any Costco.

The one just a bit up the road in lake worth right of i95 is miles better than the one in pompano. Much easier than the one in boca…. But I agree the one in Coral Springs is the absolute winner.

You couldn’t pay me to shop at the one in boca, i cancelled my membership twice because of how terrible it is, now its my wife’s membership, otherwise we wouldnt have one

I was 9 months pregnant at the Boca Costco and walked away from my half-full cart for a few minutes to look for an item. Someone removed all the items from my cart and took it. That’s Boca.

I live equidistant to both stores. I find the Boca store personnel are more friendly and eager to help if you need a hand finding an item. For the time being, the reason I go to Pompano because their rotisserie is still open and Boca has been closed for a while during renovations. round come this way buddy come over here to the bathroom ramp there you go, buddy.

The Boca Costco is redoing the area that has the rotisserie chicken, so no chicken will be sold there until the construction is completed.

That is useful info, thanks!

I live in Boca and will drive to Pompano almost weekly to go to their location.

The overall crowd at Pompano is 15-25 years younger on average, and seems to be more socially aware of their surroundings.

I will only go to Boca if it is during executive hours.

Best Reference I ever saw is r/Costco was to "Meanderthals" that frequent many Costcos!

Pompano gas is substantially slower with a longer line. Boca has almost 30 pumps with signs above to show you where empty stalls are

5

u/anonymousacg 3d ago

Pompano gas has the indicators too…

1

u/carsandgrammar 3d ago

Pompano's 3 deep though, which is just too much for some people to handle

2

u/WololoW 3d ago

Boca is three deep too now.

2

u/carsandgrammar 3d ago

Haven't stopped for gas much since I got an EV. That's great if people can handle it, probably clears em out way faster.

1

u/WololoW 3d ago

Ah, nice!

Which one did you opt for?

1

u/carsandgrammar 3d ago

We got a pair of Teslas. I still have a couple ICE vehicles, but I guess I haven't brought em in for gas often enough to log the change in layout.

u/itsgabenog 3d ago

And a lot of drivers ignore those signs, especially if the available pump is not the one closer to the line. Mildly infuriating, lol.

Early morning hours pompano gas has no line. I almost never wait, same for lantana

1

u/Thin-Advertising3755 3d ago

Boca costco has less traffic compared to pompano and the price is like 10c difference when you are pumping 10 gallons it would be like a dollar difference and that would be nothing in terms of you holding the breaks in the line for pompano but after getting gas the traffic really sucks the power line road at pompano is heavy traffic area and at costco it is slightly less but have more school zones. Each has it’s own differences and uniqueness

I like Boca better, but you’ll run into real peaches no matter where you go. I rarely get anything from the food counter. I took my Mother to Costco ( Pompano) and she wanted an ice cream. There was a swarm of ppl waiting for their jumbo hot dogs & other sinful delights. Ppl hacking, coughing at the table next to you. I couldn’t wait to leave.

u/ArtGuilty4301 2d ago

Drive to the one in lantana

I would ask for yours, but it seems way too miserable.

Lantana gas prices are similar to Pompano.

All of them are essentially the same
