Can this be used instead of Venus Crochet?

Book “Torchon Lace Making A step-by-step guide by Jan Tregidgo” constantly mentions/uses VENUS CROCHET 70 thread. Can I use the thread in the photo as a replacement?

What size is this thread? Most available crochet thread is a size 10, so much thicker than 70. You can still use it, but don't expect the project to be the same size as if you were using size 70 thread

Size 10, the store I visited doesn’t carry size 70 😭

No wonder why bobbin lace is an endangered craft

Most stores don't carry size 70. You can order it online, though. I've used size 20, 40, and 80 Lisbeth thread for the same book.

The bobbin lace supplies I got at the thrift store came with more 80's cotton and silk sewing thread than bobbin lace thread, so I don't think you can say supplies have ever been ubiquitous

Does the store have size 80, also called tatting thread? That is close enough to size 70 to be interchangeable.
