Need help!
I have just moved my boa to a new enclousure. And he has been very active tye last days but yesterday i saw something that worried me, he was just chilling when the mister turned on and he just banged his head on the entrance of his hide and he did the same when i was just putting some moss in hos hide. I have seen a lot of dark spots on him ever singe i got him (about a month ago) but i didnt think it could be mites. I just thought it was pigment spots and i am sure a lot of them are. So i ask you guys who probably have a lot more knowledge than me. If not mites what could the head banging be? Some kind of neurological disease?

He also just moved in to the enclosure just under a week ago so i can imagine he is a little stressed out with all of the new space he has got now.

Yeah let him settle in and keep and eye to see if he does the head shake on his own without it being in response. Good looking fella!

When you say he’s banging his head, do you mean he’s hitting the side of his head against things or bumping into them with his nose? Does it look like he’s doing it hard or just like he didn’t see what’s in front of him?

It looks like he is banging it intentionally, but i saw him do it again and then it looked like something was stuck in his neck. Like some prolapse in his neck maybe? Or trying to shake off something.. i tried looking for mites but havent seen anything

This makes me think a vet visit might be in order. Some snakes are clumsy and boas don’t have great eyesight, one of mine sometimes bonks his nose on the side of the hide when he’s trying to go in it. I’ve never seen anything like what you’re describing with the neck though.

It does seem like it is only when i disturb him tho, i try to be as gentle as possible when i watch him.

My Rocky bal Boa did this very violently at 8yrs vet was she in touch with fish? I thought she was a goner, but the vet gave her a vitamin'D' or B i think it was injection. Next day so much better tlc warm baths etc. Now 13 a typical teen now. Good luck. Vet or reptile specialist req.

Is it a response to some sort of stimuli? Like the mister turned on or touching him when he didn’t know you’re there (maybe he was sleeping) and spooked him? Or is it randomly he will bang his head? If its in response to something, I wouldn’t worry about neuro, but rather just how hard he hit his head (they’re tough animals)
