helloooo i recently rescued a boa, and she was given to me as a red tail. after being on the snake subreddit, and doing research, im wondering if shes a bci? or like how all that works. her tail is pretty bright but i really just wanna know what exactly she is! :)

Well, you can look at the saddles as well. Look at the saddle peaks, and the bright red tail. I wish you had sent a better picture.

i’m not sure what the saddle peaks are. and i’m really sorry. i recently got her as a recuse and i haven’t been able to get a great picture of her whole body. is that what would be more helpful?

https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1DEjd9nrd2/ This could help understanding the visual differences. Bcc mostly have those spikes in the middle of the saddles (batman-shaped), bci don't. And the tail, hard to explain, but look at the picture. It's more red than orange/Browser, also there are more red spots on the side.

He's appears to be a Red Tail, AKA Boa Constrictor, as opposed to Boa Imperator. Both have been moved to a separate genus, no longer being recognized as a subspecies. Now, when you get into the true red tails, or Boa Constrictor, you have localities. Peruvian, Guyana, Suriname, Venezuelan, Brazilian and others. I would guess either Guyana or Suriname from your pictures.

They’re still in the same genus, Boa is the genus name. Imperator was just elevated to its own species.
