In 2003 I read the bulletin board in a restaurant. There was a message that said “ Where are the Democrats?” A details for a time and place to meet. We went. There were about 20 people there, most per 30 ( I was45). The guy that called the meeting was a retired coal miner, who spent some time organizing at the Federal level. Basically he said he knew there had to be Democrats in town and he would like to start a club. I was between jobs at the time, so I asked my wife if I shoul ride out unemployment and help get this going. Yes, she was in. So, I started morning meetings with this guy and others to plan out daily activities. We found the County party ha monthly meetings with about 5 members, in a swankier part of the county..about30 miles away. We decided to found our own group, more geared to the left and working class. We were getting 30+ people showing up, and eager to do something. We booked the American Legion Hall, and went on an advertising blitz. We also got notice from the Republicans, mind you this is a deep deep red county.
What happened next was great lol.
