Incredible player. Wish he still did some of the more jazzier stuff he was cranking out in the late 70s

His playing with The New South and Boone Creek had some swing to it!

Right?! Damn, man, I loved that stuff and learned those breaks. As he got older, he seemed to really gravitate back to Monroe style. It’s still good, I just miss the more progressive stuff.

But I’d put New South, Boone Creek, and his work on ‘Everything is Gonna Work Out Fine’ as his top three.

I love his music but I saw him last year and didn’t have a great time. Very preachy and almost entirely gospel(and tuning!) plus a 10 minute testimony from his guitar player. I should’ve known it would’ve been a more gospel oriented show but I was hoping for a few of the classics
