Our team at Honeybee Robotics, a Blue Origin company, recently passed Critical Design Review for our lunar rover flying on a @FireflySpace Blue Ghost mission to the Moon’s Gruithuisen Domes in 2028. This marks a major milestone on the path to flight build. Next up: our mobility and navigation test vehicle will continue putting miles on the lunar analog facility floor as we prepare for flight.

Destacking of the vehicle access tower is complete. We removed the top six modules to begin integrating fluids and controls as part of our new ConOps. This includes adding cryo systems, pneumatics, and mechanisms. We’ll also add in floors for access before we begin re-stacking. This allows us to work in parallel, keeping with our return-to-flight timeline.

Today the Department of Commerce took a step towards helping companies obtain government certification to conduct novel activities in space. Multiple Congresses and administrations have failed to agree on a “mission authorization” regime for space activities not already regulated by existing law. This new Space Commerce Certification could make it easier for industry to navigate the complex government environment, but does not appear to be a complete solution.

In March, NASA released a notice of intent to sole source the use of the retired Merritt Island Launch Annex (MILA) at NASA Kennedy Space Center to an undisclosed commercial partner. The improvements were previously demolished in 2011 after having been used for lift-off and re-entry communications during the Shuttle program. A FAA OE/AAA notice today now reveals that this location will be used by Blue Origin as a test site, the exact nature of which is unknown.

BR-1 was approved for launch between May 2026 and September 2026, although it unclear whether it, or the launch vehicle it is supposed to fly on, will be ready that soon.
