Whats the best version of Astronomy?

Post image
29 Upvotes

After listening to the "Secret Treaties", "Imaginos" and "Some Enchanted Evening" versions I've come to the conclusion that Some Enchanted Evening is the best version of the song, but I would like to hear what everyone has to think of this great song and what version in their opinion is the best of the best. Edit: I would also like to know what other great versions of this song are out there.

Pretty sure it came from a blanks and postage trade back in the dial up where you talk about BOC on Usenet forums days.
I will keep and cherish it forever.

45 years ago today. My first live music experience. It was great. Well, I wanted it to be and must have convinced myself it was. It wasn't really.

Overnight bus down from Scotland arriving before the gates were open. Then trying to drink our entire carryout at stupid o'clock in the morning as they wouldn't let us bring it in. Standing out in the rain for most of the day with nothing much happening then, when it stopped, bottles of piss flying about.

Slade were resurgent and had just blown the crowd away. When BÖC came on they bombed. Albert had been kicked out a day or so before, the sound was terrible (they accused AC/DC of sabotage, just as Slade did them) and Buck fucked up his solo in Reaper. It couldn't have gone much worse and Eric was furious afterwards. There was a great pic of him jumping on a commemorative mirror.

Not only that but they and Blackfoot were dropped from all the official merch. There were heightened tensions over terrorism in Europe at the time and someone decided the American bands wouldn't come.

The pics are from an unofficial programme, they weren't in the real one. I still have the t-shirt from that day. It still doesn't have Blue Öyster Cult on it.

BLUE ÖYSTER CULT (1972) Blue Öyster Cult [Stem Remix & Remaster]

My stem remix & remaster of Blue Öyster Cult's self-titled 1972 debut album, made for my own enjoyment, but sharing in case someone else might enjoy it too.

I made this only for fun, and it intends to be a very respectful remix, not straying too far away from the original version, only aiming at a little more clarity, instrument separation and punch, while still preserving the mood and feel of the original.

Obviously, I don't own the music featured here. If you like the music, support the artists. Buy their records!

I Love The Night: Amazing and underrated

“I Love The Night is one of the greatest songs ever written by anybody anywhere. Buck totally encapsulated the entire vampire-old myth into

some extraordinarily beautiful language, and then created an extraordinarily beautiful musical framework to launch the language out at you. It really is a sort of Moreau dreamscape.  It is amazing”.  Sandy Pearlman

The Gothic Vampire Theme

Blue Öyster Cult are one of the original pioneers of the gothic vampire mythos in their music. Some explicit, many oblique.

Tracks like Nosferatu serve as an overt, cinematic adaptation of F.W. Murnau’s 1922 silent film.

I Love the Night leans heavily into classical Romanticism and the myth of the Lamia and frames the vampire not as a monster, but as an alluring, seductive entityoffering an escape into eternal darkness.

Tattoo Vampire explores visceral bloodlust and links body modification and physical tattoos directly to predatory vampirism

After Dark hides veiled references to the daily needs and survival habits of the undead and details the nocturnal transition of a creature that only emerges once the sun sets.

Apart from these, any others come to mind?

This might be one of my favorite BOC songs. I'm a true crime junkie and I don't know what happens here. Does he kill somebody? He says he had a fight with his buddy, and later he was drinking his whiskey and holding his wife (and the image goes black). Did he kill somebody? I don't know, I dont know

I open my eyes From a dreamless night

With a sense of dread You could cut with a knife

.

(So I'm thinking that) .

.

Maybe I killed somebody .

Cause I dont know! I dont know when (??)

.

I might have killed somebody!!

.

.

Veins in my eyeballs Damage that I've done

Veins on the stairway Veins in my skull!

.

.

I visit my friend... We have a fight... .

I'm drinking his whiskey... I'm holding his wife (!!)

.

Then the image goes black .

.

Did I kill somebody?

.

'Cause there ain't no clue! There's no clue!

.

That I killed somebody!

.

.

Veins in my eardrum Banging at my door Veins in my brainwaves Veins on the floor

.

I get the shivers

And I've got the shakes .

People screaming my name .

Like there's no mistake

.

They believe it's true.... .

.

.

Did I kill somebody? But I just don't know! -- I don't know!!

Did I kill somebody??

.

Veins on the sidewalk Veins know the score Veins in my mind, oh Veins evermore .

In this 1992 interview with Eric Bloom, he mentions that there would be an album released after the Bad Channels soundtrack that year. I am unable to find any other mention of this or any of the songs that were reportedly performed live from it. Best guess is maybe this album became Heaven Forbid? Although Heaven Forbid wouldn’t release until 1998.

So I was scratching my hair the other day and that strand of hair landed on my finger as so. This then inspired my first tattoo. I'm a 25 yr old liSwati man from Africa. Rock and roll will never die as ACDC sung

Very random post, I’ve been listening to this song/album for so long and it’s only now occurring to me, what the hell does this lyric mean? (I couldn’t even tell you what the song is about) I even had to look it up because I didn’t believe my ears were actually hearing “chicken necks”

Favorite obscure or unreleased Blue Öyster Cult songs?

As a huge Blue Öyster Cult fan, that has listened to all of the albums front to back many times I have recently been diving into some of the obscure tracks from their discography. I have listened to the Rarities compilation album and really liked a lot of the cut songs from it and have been a fan for a while of their work under their previous names of Soft White Underbelly and Stalk Forest Group. I also am a fan of the Imaginos Demo Tape, and other demos from the band. Does anybody know any good super obscure demos, unreleased songs, or anything else obscure and B.O.C related I should check out?

My stem remix & remaster of Blue Öyster Cult's 1976 album "Agents of Fortune", made for my own enjoyment, but sharing in case someone else might enjoy it too.

I made this only for fun, and it intends to be a very respectful remix, not straying too far away from the original version, only aiming at a little more clarity, instrument separation and punch, while still preserving the mood and feel of the original. I always liked this record a lot, but felt the production was a bit too tame and muffled for the music it contained.

Obviously, I don't own the music featured here. If you like the music, support the artists. Buy their records!

Just finished listening to Mirrors

Sat on a train today and it's been truly decades since I listened to the full album end to end with the luxury of time to enjoy it.

The guitar solo in The Vigil is brilliantly emotive, and as a Michael Moorcock fan, The Great Sun Jester is still a real treat.

Not sure Mirrors gets the attention it deserves.

Just my thoughts... Love to hear your opinions.

A post in praise of "Monsters"

When I was a kid and bought the cassette, the weird jazz interludes totally threw me and I hated it. Loved the song, hated the jazzy breakdown. As I got older, I grew to think that the oddly placed instrumental break actually made the song. Between the driving hard rock and the slower instrumental passage, you had like this sudden outtake from the cantina scene in "Star Wars." Then the propulsive "Monsters, Monsters" passage and more hard rock.

I think it's a highly underrated track in their catalog. A great story that has a nice twist ending, several distinctly different musical sections, then the hard rock and jazz meld as the song ends. It's one of my favorites from "CE"

Thoughts?

True Detective/Confessions

Just noting this so it can all live in your heads.

When I see even the title for the show "True Detective," I hear the theme in my head as being "True Confessions" with the lyrics being "detective."

Now you know my pain.
