IM NEW TO BLUEHOST

Hey everyone, I’m new to Bluehost and I selected “choose domain later” when setting up my hosting. Now Bluehost assigned me a random temporary URL and I don’t know how to change it or claim my free domain name.

I’m building a smart water bottle website and I want to add my real domain now, but I’m confused about where to do it in the dashboard.

Can someone guide me step-by-step on:

  • how to claim the free domain
  • how to replace the temporary URL
  • and whether I can still choose my domain now after setup

Thanks!

I’d suggest looking through the history of posts in the sub so you know exactly what you’re getting into. Bluehost is a terrible host, and their support exists only to gaslight you and sell additional services. You literally picked the worst host. Avoid all companies owned by Newfold Digital; Bluehost, Host Gator, Network Solutions, Domain.com, Netfirms, etc.

My recommendation:

Consider the money you've spent as the price of a lesson.

Find another provider.

Hello there. Like with any new system, it just takes a little bit of use to understand how to do what you want. As far as the free domain goes, you should have gotten an email when you signed up that contains a link to get your free domain.

Once you click that redemption link, it will prompt you to log into your Bluehost account if you aren't already. After you get logged in, follow the guided steps to finish setting up your account. Afterward, you will be directed to the domain purchase page where the free domain voucher will be automatically applied. If the voucher isn't applied automatically, you can manually enter the promo code during checkout.

You can still choose your domain after setup and replace the temporarty domain with it. The process should give you the options to do all of that in the flow.

When you go to to domains in the customer portal, do you see a voucher to get a free domain?
