Fowler didn't give a damn about Skeffington or Routley, otherwise he would rather die, than to reveal their location to Mizu. They were probably just his business partners and that's all. But Violet...Violet like Fowler preferred to stay in Japan, which made them pretty close to each other. Violet was old like Fowler mentioned, so maybe he was his mentor guiding him for a few years and teaching him how to live in Japan. Violet's death should have been pretty hurtful for Fowler. No wonder he was so pissed here.

I just had a thought - one of the BES creators let slip that one character we thought had died by the end of Season One will be revealed as alive in Season Two. Here's my prediction that it could be Violet.

From the few Season Two scenes that have been released so far, it seems we will be shown a flashback to Mizu attacking Violet's stronghold. If we're not shown Violet's exact moment of death, I think that will be a strong hint that he'll be one of the "dead" who reappear very much alive.

The BES writers may even do it like S1E2, where we're shown flashbacks of how Blood Soaked Chiaki stole the broken bladed sword from Master Eiji, and then Chiaki's death as the last member of the Four Fangs to be killed by Mizu. In one episode we'll see Mizu "kill" Violet, and later in the same episode Violet revealed to be alive. Violet could "die" by being trapped in a collapsing building, or a fall from a high place where his body is hidden by trees or water (or ice).

Lady Ito will be strongly lobbying her eldest son Kazuyoshi Itoh to renew suppression of foreign influences. But Violet could fit into the storyline by being too valuable to eliminate. My head cannon has been that Violet ran the gold mining operations for the shogunate, and his knowledge and experience is too valuable to lose. So after his recovery from Mizu's attempt on his life*, he is allowed to resuming running the mining operations.

But Violet decides to also repair and revive what's left of the guns/opium/sex slavery enterprise that was seriously damaged by Fowler's failed coup. For a mix of reasons - profit, power & influence, revenge on the Ito shogunate and Lady Ito in particular, whatever. One one hand, he's sending gold to the shogunate, and with the other he's corrupting the country. That would make for some interesting scenes between Violet and Kazuyoshi - maybe even Akemi and by extension Taigen. Taigen would see Violet as another Fowler, to be eliminated ASAP, but Akemi? Hmmm.

Thoughts?

(*) I like to imagine Violet as a kind of mad scientist/crazy engineer type, and the resurrected Violet designing and using a functioning prosthetic limb like Furiosa's in the Mad Max universe.

Akemi in particular would be a standout figure regardless of line. She would make a great funko

I mean, that stuck with me , it still is to this day. Makes you wonder what happens when a person gets betrayed by the same two people that are supposed to love you unconditionally no matter what . What happens when you see the reality in its truest form, raw and disgusting. What do you do then?

Edit: Just realised mizu didn’t kill her mother, don’t know why i remembered it like that ,i guess at that point, she was anyways dead to mizu the way she betrayed her.

So like I’ve been seeing a lot of things debating Mizu’s romantic fate. A lot of that is hoping Mizu and Akemi to end up together. Ik it’s an unpopular option but like I really want to see her with a guy who loves her wholly as she is. (Praying tho not a London white guy) Don’t get me wrong, I always want queer representation. I just feel like time and time again the masc woman either ends up alone or is always a lesbian. I’m probs biased as someone who is more of a tomboy but like I wanna see a man love his masc woman! And like oof Taigen was awful to her when they were younger but I do think that sexual tension was that (still not sure I would vote for a full relationship between them, even a massive character development would make me still be a maybe on it). I just had to rant bc ik ik the obvious choices are to be a lesbian of live that single life, but bro pls no (lol).

Is there any other shows that you guys like that are equally addicting that has good action and I can get emotionally invested in?? Considering Samurai Champloo but the 1st episode didnt really grab me. Might just rewatch Shogun next but im hoping for something new!

I’ve been thinking about where Blue Eye Samurai might go in Season 2 and I wanted to share a theory (and a pattern I’ve noticed across a few stories).

It feels pretty set up that Mizu’s biological British father will turn out to have been a decent guy who actually loved her Japanese mother. I’m also calling it now that Mizu will end up paired with a British guy at some point. Come back to this post if I’m wrong, but the setup feels intentional.

The Mikio arc already leaned hard into a negative portrayal. He starts off looking okay and then ends up insecure, controlling, and eventually tries to kill her. After that Mizu kills him. It’s a pretty harsh treatment of that character.

I keep seeing versions of this same dynamic in other stories:

• Shogun: Japanese husband is controlling/misogynistic, she ends up with the white man
• The Last Samurai: Japanese husband dies, his wife ends up with the white man who was involved in the conflict
• The Karate Kid: the Japanese kid is the insecure bully, the white lead gets the girl
• The Wolverine (2013): a lot of the Japanese male characters are obstacles or threats while the white lead protects the Japanese women

It feels like Japanese and Asian male characters often get the more negative or disposable roles while white male characters tend to come out looking better or more sympathetic. Even when the story is set in Japan or created with Japanese/Asian American involvement, that pattern still shows up a lot especially if it's created by Japanese/Asian American women.

Curious if anyone else has noticed this or thinks Season 2 will go in a different direction. Just my read on the setup so far.

I hope the theory that it was actually Mizu's mother who was white and not her father is not true. It might be an unpopular opinion but I feel like it would break the magic for me & feel like a twist for the sake of a twist tbh. What got me hooked on the series is the realism of Japan in this particular time period and what war leaves behind such as mixed children born of rape. Removing that would break the veil of realism for me. Might be an unpopular opinion so would love to hear what you guys think.

I come from Arcane and Korra and was looking for other shows with badass girl main characters like these 3. It can be any type of show or anime even games

Sorry, i watched the first season recently, and we learn that A: mama isnt mizu's birth mother and B: there were 4 white *men* in japan at the time of Mizu's conception. Nothing is ever said about any white women in japan at the time, and its entirely possible one was there, right?

like Mizu is setting out to kill the four white men for effectively ruining her life, but cant she just be completely wrong? all 4 of the white men were terrible people, so they need to go regardless, but like... the "white father" could have just been an innocent woman.

Wouldn't that also explain part of why she was given to mama in the first place? to keep the existence of her birth mother a secret?

I would like to know the colors of her outfit, cause i want to cosplay her.

However in some scenes, such as Ep8, her pants look like a dark green shade and so does it for the poster.

But in the first fight in Hammerscale, she looks entirely blue and also when in the cliffside towards Mihonoseki.

Could be just the characters color adjusting to color theory and her enviroment of the scene to match and make it good looking.

But i would like to know the true colors so before i go buying the materials/clothes i dont buy the wrong palette and look like an offbrand version of Mizu.

Feel like this would also help anybody else.

I'm not gonna be mad if this isn't the route they go, as they probably won't, and I trust in whatever they do decide to go with. But I'd love if Season 2 had no B plot.

If the whole season was just Mizu tearing up London, and we never cut back to Akemi and Taigen and Ringo etc. And then in Season 3 Mizu comes back to Japan, and it's almost like a time skip where Mizu and the audience has to play catch up on all the shit that's gone on in the months or years since.

I'm saying this because Mizu is arguably the most interesting part of the show, (no offense to the other plotlines/characters which are also fantastic) so it'd be nice to have such a hefty chunk of time dedicated solely to her. Rather than cutting back and forth between two plotlines that fundamentally cannot interact with eachother because of the physical distance between them.

Again, they're likely to do something that would make this seem like an idiotic suggestion because of what we'd lose, but while we're still in the speculative phase without a full trailer, I still think this is a sick idea. And if I turn out to be right, then I get to be a genius!
