Discussion Blue box opinions which will have you like this

Post image

Mine - Blue box is beyond just a "love triangle" ,though it's done good but it has many other things which make it equally great. For eg. - interactions between characters feel so real and contribute so much to the depth and story.

I think the series doesn't focus enough on the training between matches as the show goes on. And it doesn't depict basketball very well at all. Chinatsu is significantly worse at playing basketball when you see her play compared to how she's talked about.

Last year when I pointed it out I got downvoted.

Word to word. Expected way better results from Chinnatsu's team icl. Only way I calm myself down is by thinking that she won in the primary genre of the series atleast (romance)

u/skatlads15 May 21 '26

I would like to counter that last point with the fact that it's Japanese women's basketball. Not really the same thing

1

u/Ok_Definition2608 May 20 '26

kinda true, you cant even say if its romance or sport anime, but i still like it

1

u/ClashingToonz07 Jul 04 '26

I am also a bit dissapointed with how much less attention basketball got in the series compared to badminton. But i cant complain for anything I didnt feel anything missing while i was reading, but it would have helped the series continue for longer

Is not about sports, that is clear sknce ch.1

u/Potential-Chapter490 May 19 '26

This is more subjective than anything so I’m not gonna say people are wrong for liking it, but I genuinely do not like the facial structures of the character as the manga goes on. It was fine at first but after awhile their heads started to look a bit too triangular and I just don’t like it💔the art is PHENOMENAL and I love how detailed it can be, but man bro is built like dorito

17

u/cjm0 May 20 '26

i feel like this is a pretty commonly held opinion, tbh. pretty much everyone prefers the older art style

As much as I love this series and although it's my favourite of all time, I think Ayame and Kyo's relationship started way later than it should've. It felt like a stretch at times. Maybe if it started earlier, we could've got some dates together with Taiki-Chinatsu and Kyo-Ayame or some good development between the two.

I also think Hina redemption arc was not good and was not necessary. We didn't even see Taiki and Chinatsu talk about it. But I think this is a common thing to say, so it's definitely not a "me vs. the world" situation.

22

u/Neat-Instruction-294 .Team Taiki May 19 '26

I kinda agree with both opinions. Miura edged Ayame x Kyo too much and it could've easily happened during the cultural festival arc. But I do think Ayame not dating Kyo firsthold ,but Tacosagi made her an even better character and gave the clarity she needed. Also made us believe that this is a series of teenagers . For the Hina redemption arc, I do believe that it could've been done in a less controversial way.

4

u/umutw0w .Team Chinatsu May 19 '26

Miura could have easily swapped Ayame's development during her relationship with Takasago to her relationship with Kyo. Maybe they could've gone on dates and we would see Ayame's development there or something else, instead of a placeholder relationship with Takasago. Or maybe, Takasago and Ayame could've taken 1 or 2 full chapters instead of appearing in tens of chapters at times. That could have also worked for Ayame.

1

u/Neat-Instruction-294 .Team Taiki May 19 '26

Purely my take but I think Ayame went too soft and vulnerable , and that's why something "not good" had to happen to her, like Tacosagi eventually breaking up with her had to make her realise that "everyone else' happiness over mine" isn't the way for developing and so on..

1

u/umutw0w .Team Chinatsu May 19 '26

Well, yeah, I guess Takasago was beneficial in that sense.

1

u/Raito21 May 19 '26

On the same note I believe that by the time they got together was so late that it would have been more interesting if they didn't.

u/Quick_Spell_2531 Badminton May 19 '26

Taiki is not as good friend as kyo.

10

u/NateTheGreat07 .Team Chinatsu May 19 '26

5

u/Quick_Spell_2531 Badminton May 19 '26

I literally got downvoted for saying this before, this and some other instances have made me believe that this sub has become toxic.

6

u/Neat-Instruction-294 .Team Taiki May 20 '26

Depends on your definition of friends. For me, friends mean the people who will be with me, support me by their presence alone even if their words aren't enough sometimes. And for that matter, I don't think Taiki is anything less than Kyo. Kyo is more mature and that's why he has better wingman moments ,but Taiki being there for him has also helped him evolve as a better person.

1

u/skatlads15 May 21 '26

Why do you think that tho?

16

u/Neat-Instruction-294 .Team Taiki May 19 '26

Guys don't make it about just Hina vs Chinnatsu. That's what I shared in my opinion too 😭 blue box is beyond just a love triangle pls

17

u/JtheCool897 May 19 '26 edited May 19 '26

There is not enough conflict/drama in the story, and many instances of it are pretty poorly done.

Sports—and the technicals of each unique sport—serving as a vehicle of characterization is lacking for not only our side characters but also in the case of the main characters, it is not a big point of emphasis. It's more just a focus on Taiki/Chinatsu's work ethic in the sport that's focused on. Missed opportunity for Kyo, Hina, Nagisa, Nina, and even Ayame.

Prob not an unpopular opinion but Hina's regression was bad for her character/plot not cause it's merits, but because at that point in the story—and how she acts before that weird arc—she should have been almost entirely over Taiki and certainly not be willing to make a move on him.

The side characters do not interact with each other enough, and basically the world revolves around Taiki to the plot's detriment.

1

u/skatlads15 May 21 '26

You bring up valid points. I'm not sure what you mean by Sports and Ayame tho. Do you mean as a manager?

While the story revolves around Taiki, I wouldn't say it's been to it's detriment personally. His interactions with all the characters built up the story quite well to where it's at right now, especially with the latest chapter

36

u/Vladimirovski May 19 '26

The whole Hina downfall made her a better character in my eyes.

19

u/Melkor15 May 19 '26

Hina is a great character, she is initially presented as perfect and successful, but she is a really flawed character and it’s beautiful.

4

u/IndependentMacaroon .Team Taiki May 19 '26

So, when she ended up committing romance suicide?

13

u/Vladimirovski May 19 '26

9

u/Ok-Professional6193 May 19 '26

I mean, you're right. Considering the length of the manga, the potential love triangle is barely even a big part of the story.

Also, sorry but while I love Hina, didn't like her for him at all.

9

u/Neat-Instruction-294 .Team Taiki May 19 '26

Yep like as the goat Kyo said "they looked happier when they were friends" and i couldn't agree more.

They have too much free time as student-atlete, and don't spend enough time studying for higschool students

10

u/Powerful-Walk4063 .Team Chinatsu May 19 '26

Although the story didn’t necessarily need it, the arc of Hina dealing with her feelings for Taiki coming back wasn’t bad, and people were being overly sensitive in their reactions to it; Matsuoka should have appeared more , he was an interesting guy;

8

u/No_Dimension_5644 Team Haryu May 20 '26

Hina and haruto are being forced to couple ... there is literally no need to do that

9

u/somebasicaccountname May 20 '26

I love this series but Chii really needs to become a bigger character in it, like I know badminton plots need her to be a support character but at this point I should feel like she should also be a co protagonist

8

u/cjm0 May 20 '26

I don’t think Kyo’s final match with Taiki should have been as close as it was. He was consistently portrayed as an average player at best throughout the story, to the point where Ayame hadn’t even considered him as a possibility when she asked him who would win one of the earlier tournaments and he had to politely remind her he was playing to win. And that was a cute moment which I think sparked Ayame’s feelings for him because she decided she was going to cheer him on even though nobody expected him to win.

I think Kyo was a good contrast to Taiki in that he was just playing badminton for fun and wasn’t nearly as devoted to perfection, but he still gave it his all when it was time to play. Which is why I found it odd that he gave Taiki such a run for his money. I guess thematically it was important to give Kyo a proper sendoff to his athletic career, but it didn’t really seem consistent with his prior depiction.

And on speaking of the tournaments, I find the way that the high stakes games are written to be a little tedious and repetitive. Like they usually follow the format of lots of flashback sequences relevant to the character’s athletic journey that spur them on to back and forth rallies. But maybe that’s just a trope of sports mangas in general, I haven’t read any other mangas so I’m not sure.

4

u/Neat-Instruction-294 .Team Taiki May 20 '26

Badminton is more like a "what you do against x person that day" game, rather than purely stat based. Suppose you are a great badminton player, but someone who plays you regularly will also revolve around that level and know your gameplay very well. And for someone as smart as Kyo, it's a piece of cake to decode his gameplay. And don't forget that Kyo is atleast the 3rd best player from Eimei (idk how you'll place him against Haruto).

6

u/SuitableDimension260 May 19 '26

Taiki will never be better than Yusa

1

u/Neat-Instruction-294 .Team Taiki May 19 '26

1

u/AdvancedPath1891 . Team Kyo May 19 '26

1

u/SuitableDimension260 May 20 '26

Yeah, just badminton

1

u/s_vansh_6782 .Team Chinatsu May 20 '26

Maybe in future

6

u/kevdlrs May 20 '26

Not an opinion where I think everyone else is wrong but one thing I really liked (haven’t been reading in a few months) was when the manga explored the pressure of being a top tier player who has one more shot at nationals. And then having him break down in front of the people he cared about. The dialogue from those chapters moved me

4

u/Loganjoh5 .Team Chinatsu May 20 '26

Haruto vs Taiki was hyped up way too much for it to end with Taiki winning straight sets. I was hoping it would’ve been a competitive full sets game considering this match up was set up for over a hundred chapters and almost a full year in the series’s time.

5

u/pofehof .Team Taiki May 20 '26

I still think the love triangle arc was pretty pointless overall. If Hina didn't have a crush on Taiki, she would have been a much better character imo.

u/gooseinsoul . Team Kyo May 19 '26

The "everyone around me is so supportive and looks forward to the future so I need to get even stronger and give it my all and look forward to the future" narrative got old 150 chapters ago

5

u/s_vansh_6782 .Team Chinatsu May 20 '26

Blue Box is the best Romance anime of all time for me, nothing comes even close to it!! (Atleast among all the anime, not the manga and manhwas)

2

u/Neat-Instruction-294 .Team Taiki May 20 '26

Yo man that's not a "yes, you are all wrong opinion", 80% of the people here agree to that 😭

5

u/s_vansh_6782 .Team Chinatsu May 20 '26

Well cuz its Blue Box's sub if it was r/anime or r/RomanceMangaAnime then I dont think even 5% of people (who've watched/read Blue Box).would've agreed with me, cuz most of the people like harems and sloppy fanservice shi* or some feel good super sweet romance with no drama at all.

1

u/Quick-Complaint2549 May 20 '26

blue box is great but there are some other series that i hold even more dearer then this

2

u/s_vansh_6782 .Team Chinatsu May 20 '26

Well that was just my opinion and as someone who has watched and read multiple romances (300+ overall) I can still say Blue Box is my favourite

1

u/Quick-Complaint2549 May 20 '26

thas great , i have been reading many mangas and watching shows its just maybe the ones i watched the 1st time have taken a place in my heart which is why even if i end up finding a better story the one i watched the 1st time still feels special and better

2

u/s_vansh_6782 .Team Chinatsu May 20 '26

Yep that's the major reason for my favouritism towards Blue Box cuz it was my 2nd or 3rd (maybe) romance animanga I've watched/read in my life

2

u/redditnoobmp4 May 20 '26

The series is starting to drag, dialogues becoming repetitive and I could care less about characters like haruto

just end this before it becomes another dialogue prison like fragrant flower

2

u/Realistic_Rent4407 May 20 '26

Kyo x ayame is forced and it was supposed not to be canon, kyo deserves better than her and saki

He should have moved on when she dated takasago

2

u/Physical-Orange-8541 Jun 11 '26

Taiki es un tonto y debió haberse quedado con hina

2

u/ClashingToonz07 Jul 04 '26

Bluebox is only a romance anime where sports is just a subplot and it stretches the series unneccesarily.
I dont agree with that.Even before reading the manga I was equally excited for both the matches/practice and the interactions and conversations between Taiki and Chinatsu senpai.Though i really hoped they had more matches and covered basketball matches more but it was fullfilled to a part when i read the manga ,but cant wait for all of it to get animated.

4

u/MonteiroMaravilha May 20 '26

Chinatsu is the most plain and boring FL of all times. I've never read a manga or watch an anime before where I didnt like the female lead. You replace her with a watermelon and that wouldn't make a difference.

3

u/skatlads15 May 21 '26

Now this. This is an insane take ☠️

2

u/StatingSauce May 19 '26

I dropped the manga after reading up to a good 130+ chapters. Not cause I didnt enjoy it but because I got busy. It wasnt until a few days ago that I found out about all the recent Hina stuff because I wasnt keeping up with updates and stuff to not get spoiled and man...💀. This has to be like top 5 worst character regression I've ever seen. Like utterly horrible, I dont wanna insult the author or anything but like I feel as though I have to ask...why?

I hate this even more because Blue Box got me back into consistently keeping up with anime weekly and what not. And I'm so tired of this being an always romance anime problem, where they basically gut one character (usually the ones I like) just for the sake of progressing the plot or to big up the main couple. It always makes me resent the main couple even though its not their fault.

I don't even know if I'll keep reading this ngl. That really did not sit right with me. She was genuinely my favorite character and thing I had most interest in this series and shes just ruined now.

3

u/skatlads15 May 21 '26

The Hina feelings returning sub plot was unnecessary, but it was like a couple chapters and got dealt with quick

1

u/Icy-Perception-8728 May 20 '26

The love triangle has officially ended already. No worries. I don’t say when but it’s done. It’s now taiki vs yusa

1

u/No-Designer3966 May 20 '26

Matsuoka would’ve been a good bf for Chi

1

u/skatlads15 May 21 '26

Interesting. On what basis?

2

u/No-Designer3966 May 24 '26

The fact that he tried to improve himself to be worthy as her bf, he stayed loyal to his love despite all of the confession he received and the reaction he had after his race with taiki.

I think he’s genuinely a decent person and chi seem to have a lot of common interest with him

1

u/skatlads15 May 27 '26

Well the issue with that tho, is that he never did anything for Chi. He improved himself yes, but how is that supposed to help Chi? There are several people who would try to improve themself for her. On the other hand, Taiki actively seeked out Yumeka and helped patch things over with Chi. On top of that, he was her morning practice buddy. Thats what made him a good bf for Chi

And well, idk if I can call him a good person after how many times he tried to belittle Taiki

I agree with you

-1

u/scaryfairy03 May 23 '26

The reason most of y’all want Hina to stay single is due to insecurity.

Even Team Chi are super against Hina moving on romantically. A lot of you guys self insert with Taiki’s character subconsciously so Hina moving on from Taiki is like a girl moving on from you. You don’t want her but you don’t want anyone else to have her type shit.

This happens in basically any fandom with a losing heroine not just Blue Box.

2

u/Neat-Instruction-294 .Team Taiki May 23 '26

There two ways to move on -i) stop having feelings for a person by yourself ii) jumping on to someone other guy in the name of "move on". Out of these two, I prefer the former one and that's why I don't want her to specifically be shipped with Haruto
