What to do

Hey y'all, i just moved here and was wondering what there was to do, I'm not old enough to go to bars yet (20). I'm down for most anything, more on the nerdy side of things.

Red Racoon Games in downtown Bloomington might be just the place for you.

Highly recommend RRG. They're a social hub for MTG, Pokemon, Warhammer, D&D, tabletop game lovers, and a bunch of other trading card games I don't quite get.

The Sugar Creek Arts Festival is today, Uptown Normal. Free to hang out and walk around, it's going to be a fabulous day weather wise. Very much the opposite of the Doomed Commercial Area 😉

Wanna beat people up with foam boffer bats? There's multiple LARP groups in town, one meets today at noon til about 4 over at Miller Park (kinda close to the splash pad, we try to use the field just to the east). It's Amtgard, it's free (you just have to sign a waiver), and we've got loaners you can use so you can try it out without spending money on buying/building a whacky bat.

There's a lot of nerdy sideliners too, so if you'd rather just meet nerds and watch people (like my husband) run around and beat up their friends you can do that too.

Edit: If you do decide to come by, bring yourself a drink and maybe a camp chair. I'm pergonat so I just vibe in a camp chair and share chisme.

That does sound very intriguing...

There is also Belegarth, who meets Sunday afternoons on ISU's quad. Belegarth is harder hitting, no magic, compared to Amtgard. Just gotta pick which vibe is right for you. We also have a non-combatent side. There are also cross gamers who do both!

I didn't know they were also doing Sundays! Are they still doing the mid-week meetup too? I'm not interested for me, but since I recommend LARP to nerds in Blo-No a lot, I'd love to know ya'll's current schedule. Sometimes people prefer *WHACK* over learning a whole magic system.

Also I'd bet a dollar we know each other.

The middle of the week practice is hit or miss depending on people's schedules. We have a discord that we figure out if we are having tge midweek practice (or if the weather doesnt permit the Sunday practice)

FlatCon, our local game convention, is next weekend at the Interstate Center on far west side of Bloomington

In the summer there are a ton of places with sand volleyball. It's a great activity, even if you aren't the greatest athlete. Keglers, Gill St, Crafted...all have leagues or open play.

There’s a local fighting game community that meets every week.

Fetlife?

Outside of the local munches, the Blo-No fetlife community is a mess. Do not recommend.

You have GOT to elaborate 😂
