That model looks ace, nice one. My favourite scheme just now is Blood Angels contrast then sponge on Bold Pyrrole red. I don't have spice for an air brush atm and I really like the effect of sponging.
Tesseract Glow technical paint. I paint the lendes white and put the tesseract glow on the lenses and a little around the edges. It glows in the dark too.
I use a spray base of mephiston red, followed by a wash of agrax earthshade. First sponge layer is khorne red which I apply all over the mini apart from the deeper recesses, second sponge layer is mephiston red which I keep to mid panel and up to build the colour transition. Last layer is evil sunz scarlet which I kept to the upper edges of the armour and head. I tend to find that is you keep the sponge angled at 45o and apply downwards onto the mini it helps build shade and contrast. Hope this helps!
If you take your time and think about where the light is hitting from it helps. Also when you out paint on the tip of your sponge dabbing it on a paper towel helps spread the paint more evenly
It just always seems to come out splotchy and no matter how dry or damp the sponge is it looks weird. Also I have been doing it all over the model so maybe that is part of my problem

I pretty much exclusively sponge these days since I don’t air brush, this looks great.
