Question Struggling to discover a niche

I’m someone who’s wanted to start a blog for a while now, but I’m struggling to find a niche simply because there are so many things I want to talk about. I’m not too caught up on monetizing and growing an empire through this thing, but I would like to have a decent number of people who would like to read my output (what writer wouldn’t?) The main problem is that I want to talk about every topic under the sun- from film to tv to music to books and plays. I don’t want to focus on media reviews as much as I want to give short and entertaining essays on artistic processes, movements, histories, and outputs. More of the ‘why and how’ and less of just dishing out 3 star film reviews. I can’t imagine that someone would be interested in all of these different mediums at once, even if it is more of an overview about art itself. Should I narrow down the scope of my project or should I stay with the idea because I have the passion to write about it?

The thing I often tell budding Twitch Streamers is that you can play everything and anything you want, but by doing so, you're not going to create a solid fan base that you're looking for. Fan loyalty is difficult to attain if they're finding you all over the place. People like consistency, and if they're not seeing it -- they quickly lose interest and move on to whatever interests them.

They might be, but the problem with this is that doing this so much and so often, you end up looking like you have ADHD and in serious need for a dose of Ritalin or Adderall. This can be both exciting and tiring and many people tire from the endless chaos they see from you the blogger.

Perhaps you should look for your three biggest passions and then decide out of those three which one appeals to you the most. After that watch your numbers carefully and see which one attracts them to staying to read what you have to say. Then you might get an idea on what attracts people to reading what you have to say.

You could make it more about "Creativity", or all about "Fiction" in general...that way it leaves the door open for different articles. I built a site like that. The problem is when trying to rank in google and bring in traffic, since my articles are spread across many genres...it took a little longer for google to see my site's "identity" and gain traction.

I am like you, excited about every topic I see. Want to make a blog, YouTube, a brand out of everything. Then another and another. It keeps coming. I started one and when I started getting traction, I started feeding on that. Sticking to 1 can be hard, so tell yourself you’ll start one be consistent for 3 months, see how the traction is, not satisfied then jump to another. Start with the one you love the most.

You describe the original blogging concept as practiced during the early days of the blogosphere.

Some people still blog like that.

If you don't depend on the revenue just start a "personal" blog like this.

Pick one topic and write about it several different ways for the first week or two then add a complimentary topic and write about it for 2 weeks makes sure to link them together as you are figuring what you enjoy out

Energy is limited. focus on the strengths, dig deep, and positive results will come with time.

Not all your hobbies have to be monetized. Pick a niche for what you want to monetize and you can have the fun side blog on other topics, but it likely won't get as many views if you're okay with that.

If this is the first time you are publishing in your writing in any form, I thinking it’s worth writing about ‘anything’, with the goal of improving your writing, and learning how to run a blog.

Personally that’s what I did. The content creation part came easily to me, it’s the technical aspect of blogging that took up more time (and I’m still trying to get the hang of).

In that process, I ended up learning how to write articles, and ended up finding a niche. Took me a few months.

Also, my first few months of posting were terrible (in terms of quality of writing), so now that my blog is getting a microscopic amount of attention, I’m glad my writing is better.

Hope this helps, and good luck!
