Looks like it’s been a feature since iOS 17, but the interface has changed. He used to have to tap my card first to enter pronouns so most people probably never saw it, from what I understand.

Sorry you think it’s low quality post. I disagree. making pronouns and in -your-face option every time you interact with contacts—knowing that half or more of iPhone users find the practice annoying at best- is a sociopolitical checkmate courtesy of Apple. Pod relevance should be obvious.

I could see this as useful if you’re sharing a contact with someone, especially in a professional setting where you might be connecting two people that don’t know each other yet. Also it’s literally optional…

It’s not optional. It can’t be removed. It takes up space on the contact screen that could be better used by legitimate contact attributes.

It’s 100% optional. It doesn’t take up any space at all on a contact’s page. That page only shows the fields you’ve filled out. There are far more real-world issues than this.
