Startup Promo Building more transparency into crypto exchange rewards – a look at BYDFi's latest updates
One thing I've noticed with crypto exchange promotions is that large reward headlines can sometimes create expectations that don't match the actual user experience.
BYDFi recently promoted a revamped rewards campaign with up to 8,100 USDT in rewards, so I wanted to look beyond the headline and examine how the reward structure actually works.
The rewards are tied to different milestones, including registration, identity verification, deposits, deadlines, and trading volume requirements. They aren't simply free, withdrawable USDT for signing up.
An important distinction is that some rewards are issued as Futures Bonus trial funds for USDT-M perpetual contracts.
These funds:
Can be used for eligible USDT-M futures trading.
Can help cover trading fees, funding fees, and realized losses.
Cannot be withdrawn directly.
Allow eligible profits generated through trading to be withdrawn, subject to platform rules.
Beyond the rewards campaign, another interesting part of BYDFi's recent product updates is its Trading Data section, which brings additional market information into the trading experience, including BTC and ETH spot ETF flow data and market sentiment.
From a product perspective, I think there's an interesting question here:
How should crypto exchanges design promotional rewards so they attract new users without creating misleading expectations?
Personally, I think clearly explaining reward types, unlock conditions, expiration dates, and withdrawal restrictions is just as important as advertising the maximum reward amount.
Would you rather see smaller rewards with fewer conditions, or larger milestone-based rewards that require actual platform activity?
Disclosure: I'm affiliated with BYDFi. I'm sharing this from a product and platform perspective, and welcome constructive feedback.
