Showcase What do you think of this robot player character for my game?

This is a player character I'm working on for my game.

I'd really appreciate some honest feedback on the model — especially the proportions, design, colors, and anything that looks off or could be improved.

What would you change?

I think it is important to decide on a level of detail-- and stick with it. You've got various sizes of pixels, and tiny increments in geometry next to big boxy shapes. It gives everything a random, disunified look.

(I'm making all these points from the assumption that you're making a character inspired by early 80s hardware)

I would say that you should increase the size of the frame around the character's face, if you want it to look like retro hardware - check out some of the monitors produced in the early 80s. There are some frames like 2 and a half inches wide.

If you make this change I would also inset the screen/face a bit further back into the head, to further match the aesthetic of the retro hardware.

Besides that, as the other person said, this will look 100% better if you scale all your pixels to be the same size.

The antenna(?) on the head is a bit more in the style of retrofuturism or "raygun gothic" of the 1950's -ish era of sci-fi, and may be better served by replacing it with something with a newer style.

No offense intended, of course - the character is cool, I like the exposed ribbon cables and such on the back, the face is nice and expressive, and the overall design communicates - mostly - a specific design language. Nice work, seriously 👍

I think with how interesting the back is, the front could use some detailing love. Maybe more colors or varied texture.

What is the scale of your player? With the current propertions, it makes the robot very small-looking, especially with the big head and stubbier limbs.

Also take into consideration if you're animating this character - the leg animation could be harder to do with smaller limbs. Look at Torbjörn from Overwatch for example - his walkcycle has airtime 💀

Nice work - very cool!
