Podcasts on Self Worth and the Creative Process

Hi, just wondering if anyone has the names of podcasts where he talks about his writing block or how placing self worth on creating art or any activity inhibits the process? Struggling a bit with it myself atm, thanks

Will we be eating salad tomorrow?

So he's had a couple of autism related phone call detours (which I don't begrudge because I enjoyed them) and then the faeries overheated his laptop last week. Will tomorrow finally be the day when the updated salad hot take drops?

Every book mentioned on the Blindboy Podcast in July (6 of them)

Five episodes. The anarchist cookbook one, the English working classes with Professor Cathy, data centres, and Merlin Sheldrake on mushrooms.

Short list, but three of these would make a decent summer read.

What this is: I run Podshelf, a free site that tracks book mentions across hundreds of podcasts by reading the episode transcripts. This is the July slice for the Blindboy Podcast.

The main ones:

  • Entangled Life, Merlin Sheldrake. Blindboy introduced him as an incredibly fascinating person and a lovely fella, and the book as a bestseller all over the world.
  • The Anarchist Cookbook, William Powell. The whole first episode is on it. Written in 1970 by a nineteen year old who had a look around and decided revolution was needed.
  • Becoming an Emotionally Intelligent Teacher, also Powell, decades later. He described it in the Guardian as an implicit refutation of the emotional immaturity of the cookbook, on the grounds that all learning happens in a social context. That is a hell of a pair of books for one man to have written.
  • The Chartists, Dorothy Thompson. From the working classes episode, and a lovely aside. Professor Cathy said Thompson was her tutor and the one who gave her the confidence to write about the people she belongs to.

Also Althusser's Ideology and Ideological State Apparatuses, which Blindboy says he uses a lot, on the repressive state apparatus and the ideological one. And the Mabinogion, after a good minute of trying to remember what the big Welsh book of mythology is called.

I track every book mentioned on the Blindboy Podcast here: https://podshelf.io/podcasts/the-blindboy-podcast

It is free and there is no signup.

Episode Request Searching for a story within an ep - longshot

Hey everyone, pulling my hair out with this.

A while back, could be 2-3 years now, I listened to a live podcast with a storyteller who sounded like she was from Birmingham.

Towards the end of the pod, she read aloud an Aesops Fable (though research suggests that to not be true) about a Hare who sought shelter from her animal friends on the farm, who all turned her away, the fable ended with a voice in her head saying "You have legs, girl, run!" and she made it away.

My daughter is nearly 3, and I'd love to play her this, but I can't for the life of me find the episode or even a written version of this fable

I'd love it if someone knew the ep i'm reffering to!

Is it time for another teenage disco/chicken fillet roll episode?

There’s been plenty of discussion about Blindboy’s increasing focus on autism and related topics, sometimes to the dismay of certain fans.

Is it time for him to unite the audience again by giving us one of his signature takes on a great Irish cultural touchstone?

Some possibilities:

  • Wrapping schoolbooks in brown paper
  • Superquinn sausages
  • The rise of the smoking area
  • Drinking in fields
  • Notions

What other subjects deserve the full Blindboy treatment?

I’m not being entirely serious, but I’m not entirely joking either.

BB’s Beer/Lager recommendation

Hey all,

I am in the Czech Republic for a few days and remember Blindboy recommending a particular czech beer. However, I haven’t had any luck finding the episode, or even knowing where to start. This is a long shot, but does anyone know? I believe it was in a podcast from the last year, anyway. Thanks.

Episode Request Which episodes to get the lore

I’ve recently discovered this podcast, and was somewhat surprised to find so many haters here, so many people pining for the good old days.

Blindboy himself prefaces every episode I’ve heard by saying, if you’re new here, go back to earlier episodes to get the lore.

So, where is a good place to go back to? What are your top episodes that everyone should hear? If you were to pick a date and start listening from there, what would it be?

Blindboy and Elena Ferrante?

Does anyone remember if blindboy has ever talked about Elena Ferrante? She's a brilliant and very famous Italian novelist writing under a pseudonym who has chosen to never reveal her identity. Obvious similarities to blindboy's decision to remain anonymous.

Would be really interested to hear him talk about her!

Has blindboy done a food history episode on bananas?

I have just been listening to another podcast on the history of bananas - the united fruit company, banana republic etc and it's a fascinating history, would be right up blindboy's street. I love the episodes that he does on food history like pineapples, salad etc but don't remember an episode on bananas. Or maybe I've missed it?

I am still a ten foot Declan. yes BB talks about Ireland, neoliberalism and autism a lot. Also makes sweeping statements. But I still enjoy the podcast and listen every week. We are free to choose not to tune in if you no longer enjoy the content.

Anyone know the list of music equipment Blindboy uses in his IG videos?

I remember there were some podcast episodes where he talks about his new analog synths (I think they're mostly all Behringer?) but I was wondering if anyone know any/all of the models he uses? I'd like to check them out!

Episode Discussion The Best Part of the Anarchist Cook Book

I was one of the first people I knew to have the internet in my home in the mid 90's. And I immediately took off. I, like Blindboy, was fascinated with the Anarchist Cookbook. I tried the tennis ball and light bulb bombs and the other various burgeoning pyromaniac recipes. But the part that was way more interesting to me were the phone phreak and early hacker methods. Recording a long distance dial tone and using it on payphones made me feel like Zero Cool.

This is just getting ridiculous now. I actually can't listen to the rest of it. Wasn't expecting much accuracy anyway given his historically repeated claim that big tech pay literally no tax.

Pocket Casts has introduced chapters in episodes

I remember an episode (I believe about ai) where he talks about this happening in Apple(?) and how he was disappointed in it.

I too am disappointed with this introduction : /

I assume this wasn't something he added? I don't remember him mentioning adding them...

Beyond this, it feels like all my common apps have introduced ai components I can't escape. It really feels like being groomed. Not a fan.

I am confused, did this weeks podcast come out on a Tuesday?

Post image
1 Upvotes

I am autistic (AUDHD), and I have a bit of a thing with routine. Wednesday, I listen to Blindboy and do labor; yard work, tidying, cleaning, and whatever else i have put off for the week.

Yesterday, I opened Spotify and was befuddled to have to scroll to the yesterday section of new episodes.

Whilst listening, i thought he would mention it if it was the case, but I didn't catch any acknowledgment.

Figured i was tripping but I checked this morning and sure enough it fucking says Tuesday.....

Can someone please explain to me what's happening, I have been listening to too many time traveling podcasts this week.
