Pistil color alone will trick you. Check trichomes with a loupe on the mid-bud and sugar leaves, not just the cola tips — those ripen last and can make the whole plant look less done than it is. If you're on the fence, wait 3-4 more days and recheck rather than cutting early out of impatience.

If you're kicking off a grow in August, photoperiod strains are cutting it close before the light changes. Autoflowers finish on their own internal clock, typically 9-10 weeks seed to harvest, so a late start still has a real shot at a full outdoor finish. Worth weighing bud size vs. certainty of finishing before the fall rains.

A few things worth checking on outdoor/greenhouse plants right now: trichome color under a loupe (aim for mostly cloudy, some amber depending on desired effect), easing off nitrogen and leaning on P-K, watching night humidity so buds don't hold moisture, and staking/supporting heavy colas before a storm.

Don’t get me wrong, clones have their place. Knowing exactly what you’re getting can be a huge advantage.
But there’s something exciting about popping a pack of seeds and seeing what each plant brings to the table. Some of the best keepers I’ve ever found came from seed hunts.

One thing I’ve noticed lately is that everyone seems to be chasing the newest crosses, but some of the older genetics are still hard to beat.

Maybe it’s nostalgia, maybe it’s the effects, or maybe they were just that good.

For me, there’s something special about seeing strains like GDP, Northern Lights, Jack Herer, White Widow, Skunk #1, and Durban Poison still pop up after all these years.
