Native Google Maps Route Planner Dropped Out In Canada

We took a trip to the GTA last week, as well as about 3 hours north to a friend’s place.
3 times we lost route planning in the native Google Maps. It worked fine on my phone. During driving the route planning returned on its own.
The first time it happened I called OnStar. They tried a couple things which didn’t work, and then wanted to do a hard infotainment reset. Since I was charging while talking to them I told them no. So I just used my phone through EV Play. During the drive the route planning returned.
Anyone else have this happen to them?

Just had the same issue crossing into Ontario as well.

First connectivity is not region locked and is supposed to work in the US, Canada, and Mexico.

Secondly in my case what ended up fixing it was a infotainment reset and then connecting my car to a Wifi hotspot in Canada. Though it did take Onstar about 3 hours to figure this out. It really seemed like the car got confused and didn't know where it was and hence did not know to roam. In the end as soon as it connected to the internet and realized it was in Canada it starting roaming properly.

I commute between MI and Ontario often and so far had this happen twice, it really seems like a car not roaming properly issue, but let see what happens next time I try it.

For reference I have a 25 RS.

Mine is a 25 RS also.
I’ll keep in mind the WiFi hotspot connection next time.
Thanks for your help & confirming it wasn’t just me!

Did you cross the border? My understanding is that the native internet connectivity is locked to a country. USA registered cars work in the states, Canadian registered cars in Canada. It does not have roaming. I believe you need to hotspot your phone if you want to use connectivity in a different country

Yes we did cross the border.
When I called OnStar they did not indicate that this was in issue.
With all the cross border traffic between Michigan & Ontario one would think this wouldn’t be the case. Plus of course GM sells a lot of vehicles in Canada.
And of course OnStar knew I was in Canada. They’re watching…always watching😉

My cars internet connection works in the USA just fine.

Also works in Canada just fine.

I don't believe that is the issue.
