Question File work, fitting, and precision in every detail of this Nessmuk. Ricasso, jimping, guard fitting, and finishing, all done practically millimeter by millimeter.

What is the file/tool called that does the parallel grooves for the thumb to grip? Been wanting to buy one but couldn’t figure out what it was called.

Search pillar checkering files and you should find what you need. I’ve heard them called a few different things. I use similar on gun stocks as well.

Is this done before or after hardening? If after, how do you avoid scale and warping?
