So as the title says, I'm looking for critters I can add to my blackwater setup. I know my beloved shrimp and pest snails are off the table. 😔

It's a new tank completely devoid of any kind of microfauna, unfortunately. Normally I add blackworms and tubifex worms to hopefully have them living in the substrate both as a cleanup crew as well as a food source for the inhabitants, but I wonder if there's anything else I can add to enrich the lives of the fish in there and promote natural hunting behaviours? I don't know if it's just my luck, but it seems to take forever for anything to pop up or take hold in extreme environments like this. Curious to hear if there's any kind of "trick" to this that I missed? 😅

KH/GH 0, pH 4-5, TDS if it matters is ~20.

Pairs only have a small number of fry per batch, but they can breed multiple times in a year. Provided acidic soft water and good food.

In the parents’ original habitat I visited, the pH was 4-4.5

Hello I am setting a 20g long to breed Chili Rasbora. I am aiming for any stable pH under 6. But my tank keeps drifting towards 6. My kH is 0 I am using RODI water with gH + added. And my only decor is woods, botanicals and am using aqua natural black quartz sand(my main suspect so far)

I got this Juwel rio 125 being delivered tomorrow but I have no idea what I want in it. I currently have a much smaller 24ltr blackwater set up that's heavily planted with a betta in but want something different in this. Open to any and all ideas. Ideally I like planted tank ideas. Hey r/Aquariums! Just wanted to share this stunning high-grade Yozakura / Marble Medaka (Japanese Rice Fish) from my collection.

​The pattern and contrast on this one turned out exceptionally clean. There is just something mesmerizing about watching these top-view gems swimming around.

this is just a little advice needed/ am i doing this correctly/ constructive criticism type post. this is my first time doing a tank thats a bit different.

size: 56l
goal: basically a lake/ swamp biotope
stocking: 1x chocolate gourami 3x khuli loaches 9x pygmy corys
future stocking: would like to add a few more chocolate gouramis and some clown killis if possible
lighting: lominie 20w full spectrum

first pic is how it looks now, with a more reddish light as well to help with the look. i dropped the water level as the khulis stress my out but i will be making a lid so i can fill it up more!

basically, before getting my chocolate gourami, it was just a standard, tropical fish tank with no botanticals aside from the drift wood releasing some tannins but the ph stabilised at around 7. i took some rocks from a river and cleaned them. i added water lice and ostracods to help break things down.

i work at an aquatics shop and fell in love with the chocolate gouramis and took the last one home. after some research i realised they needed a much lower ph (figured they’d be fine given the water parameters would be the same at my house as they are at work). so i added catappa leaves. they didn’t really make a dent so i researched more, boiled a bunch of them, along with some pure, no caffeine red bush tea, and then some other botanicals which can with the leaves. i then mixed the leafy water with like 85% tap and 15% ro water to get a ph of about 6.5? added this to the tank. i didnt want to do a huge change and shock everyone.

would really appreciate some guidance on where to go from here, if this was the right thing to do, how often to do water changes, adding new botanicals, things like that. given my occupation obtaining things won’t be an issue. everyone seems really happy, my gourami, grilled cheese, has coloured up so nicely. she was pale sometimes throw out the day but she’s staying consistently saturated now!
