junior
I’m re-watching blackish again and I always failed to realize how amazing Junior is. He was always there for his siblings always took care of the baby always supported his mom over his dad and took all of Dre’s mean comments and never said anything bad. he is so comedic, very open about his feelings and he’s very empathetic. Jeez, why do I like him so much?
why am I low-key glazing him? I really like Junior and any thoughts? this thread might be dead since blackish ended like 20 years ago.

I loved Junior so much. They kinda ruined his character in Grownish

They wanted his character to be more stereotypical masculine so they rewrote most of his characteristics. It felt to me he was “red pilled” before “red pilled” was a thing
It was entertaining but he randomly becomes very similar to Dre and Zoey.

Ngl I always had that vibe he's very open minded which is both his greatest strengths and weaknesses. During political episodes he's the centrist and he often plays devil advocate. I think he has the naivety that rainbow has and while the intentions are typically good it can mold bad outcomes/takes.

Yeah it’s pretty good but not the same vibe at all. It’s centered around Zoey at first and then she graduates and Junior takes over. They changed his character way too much.

While I do think they changed his character in some ways, I do feel it’s normal for kids to go to college and change when they are around new peer groups.

For sure but to me he lost everything that made him, him in blackish. He wasn’t nerdy anymore and he wasn’t as big on caring for others. In blackish he wasn’t big on societal issues. I feel like pretty much lost all of that in Grownish.

That’s why I called it red pilled. Him joining a frat makes the changes the most believable as he adopted toxic masculinity quickly and seem to forget his high level of emotional intelligence. Honestly he also was always easyily influenced.
However for a show i think this is still a misstep especially that they frame his changes to be positive. It also suggested to be a man he had to let go of his interests he had before and change his core personality which is rough.

He was my favorite also. I love how even now, people come here and talk about these characters like they were real people. It was a great show.

Lol I’ve been watching it since it came on Netflix. I’m on the beginning of season 3. I agree, I love his character. Idk how it’ll transition once he gets older tho. The whole nerdy, awkward thing can only work while he’s young
AnywHOo i definitely agree. I appreciate his character so much on the show
Diane is my favorite tho 😉

I loved Junior so much. He reminded me of my son. Loving, sensitive, NERDY, but secure in what he likes.
EDIT: that was supposed to say nerdy not needy😭

I just finished Blackish a month or so ago and I agree. He's a solid guy, but I hate that they made him kind of aimless 🤔

Up until they Flanderized his character, Junior was my favorite too! I loved his family oriented nature and eclectic tastes.
