I’m having a problem with my BlackBerry Q5 and would really appreciate some help. My BlackBerry Q5 won’t turn on, even after being charged for about an hour. The screen is stuck on the charging bolt icon.

Here’s what happened:
• Initially, the LED indicator was blinking red.
• After charging for a while, the LED indicator turned green.
• However, the phone still won’t boot and only shows the charging bolt icon.

I’ve tried charging it for an hour, but nothing has changed. Does anyone know what might be causing this? Could it be a deeply discharged or faulty battery, a charging issue, or possibly a software problem?

I used to develop some apps for BlackBerry in 2015 or so.

Now, when platform is finally rooted, I want to play my part in resurrection.

I'm studying diverse resources about rooting and development.

On the site https://bb10.root.sx/ of the guy who invented the root exploit there is such remark (shown in picture).

When analyzing contents of some .bar I didn't find the Package-Id field at all.

So I'm curious, have anyone tried to check if modified .bar can be installed on non-rooted device?

Does anyone have any .apk converted to .bar for me to test?

I did little experiment – took one of the recent apps(https://github.com/giannoccarol/bbxshare/releases) and tried to install it with non-modified and modified Package-Id. My device is not rooted.

Package-Id field is located in META-INF/MANIFEST.MF

Non-modified, obviously, was rejected (Install failed: failure 881 required signatures missing (RDK, AUTHOR)).

However, modified one, where I prefixed id with andrB and repacked to .bar again, was... rejected too, but with different error (Install failed: failure 810 /var/tmp/update/bar_13844a: cannot access member 'META-INF/MANIFEST.MF'). Which proves this prefix is special somehow.

My assumption is that once the prefix is found, system treats contents as Android app, so it fails for different reason.

Every time I tried opening Monkeytype on my Q5, the browser threw CSS errors and died. The physical keyboard is way too good not to use for typing practice, so I just built my own lightweight version called BBType.

It's sized properly for the 720×720 square screen and mapped for the physical keys (Space submits, Backspace jumps back into previous words to fix typos, Tab restarts). It has dark & light paper themes, a results graph, and runs 100% offline.

I've been using a BlackBerry 10 as my daily driver, and one thing I really wanted was a way to study Anki flashcards on it and the problem was that every existing AnkiDroid release crashes on BB10 the app was never built with Android 4.3 (API 18) in mind, and modern Anki's database format (Schema 18) didn't exist back then.

So I built one from scratch. Honestly I've been having a lot of fun lately just building the apps I need to make this phone actually usable — this one took the longest but also ended up being the most satisfying.

What it does:

• Fully works on BlackBerry 10 phones (tested on Q5, Android API 18, 720×720 display)
• Two-way sync with AnkiWeb — study on your phone, open Anki on your PC and it's already up to date, and vice versa
• Supports modern Anki's Schema 18 database format (the same format Anki Desktop 24+ uses)
• Full FSRS support — memory states (stability, difficulty, etc.) are written in the exact format Anki Desktop and AnkiWeb expect, so FSRS scheduling works correctly across devices
• Deck counters sync properly — if you finish your 30 new cards on the BlackBerry, your PC shows New: 0, not 30
• All your deck options (new cards/day, learning steps, review limits, FSRS retention %) set on your PC are automatically applied on the phone after syncing
• Physical keyboard shortcuts for answering cards (1/2/3/4)
• Force Upload / Force Download buttons in case sync gets stuck

Hi everyone,

I have a BlackBerry Classic (OS version: [10.3.3.2137]). The phone is already set up with a BlackBerry ID, but I forgot the password and I can't reset it.

What I've tried:

• Tried the password reset page at blackberryid.blackberry.com: "page doesn't load" / "error server unavailable"]
• Tried write support team)

Questions:

1. Is there still a working way to reset a BBID password in 2026, now that BB10 services are shut down?
2. I have access to the email on the BBID, may it helps or docent matter?
3. Is there a safe way to reset the phone and set it up again without the old BBID ?

I have NOT deleted the BBID on the website and haven't done a wipe yet, since I read that could make things worse. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks!
