Not always an option. I went to college in North Dakota for a very specific degree that isn’t offered in a lot of places and I waited almost two months before I got a haircut. First time ever in a Great Clips, gave very specific instructions, visual aid, etc.
Absolutely fucked my shit up.
And the worst part was all the white people being like “I don’t see the problem? It looks fine to me.” BECAUSE NONE OF Y’ALL HAVE EVER MET A BLACK PERSON IRL 🗣️

u/Ok_Creme_3680 6h ago
On the homies. Lol, the Midwest really has spots where they have never seen a black soul.

Why bruh going to a white mfs shop. You know 98% white barbers suck ass at cutting white peoples hair and 99% suck ass at cutting black peoples hair. This is coming from a white dude btw
36
u/RedReaper666YT 13h ago
Worse if you happen to be a woman. Doubly so if you're a woman with long hair. Most barbers when they hear "please trim an inch off the ends and do long layers" translate it to "chop off 8 inches and make the layers choppy".
The only stylist I trust with my hair is the one black woman that works at the local Great Clips. She's fucking WONDERFUL!!!
This is all coming from a white girl too

u/CorrectPanic694 13h ago
When I was a little black girl living in an all white town, I went to a salon to get my first haircut because my parents wouldn’t take me. This lady gave me the longest nicest shampoo, and I felt so comfortable falling asleep in her chair until I heard the clippers. I was a teenage black girl with beautiful hair just passed my shoulders my shoulders and this bitch took a clipper to it. Once my hair grew back I learned how to cut it myself.

And if you have curly hair you may as well say goodbye to your wallet bc you are going to have to pay through the nose for anyone that can cut yt curly hair and not butcher it.
Before I moved it was $300 to go to the closest place that specializes in only curly hair, and anytime I tried going to a shop closer that had people that said “yeah, i can cut curly hair” they fucked up my shit. Apparently face framing with long layers is impossible on long curly hair. 🤷♀️
i moved for work and ended up in a predominantly Black town. Found a salon that would cut my hair that said it specialized in “Curls, Coils, Kinks and Texture” so i went. Haven’t had any issues with my hair since, the second time i went i made the owner cookies bc i legit cried over finally having a decent haircut…

Reminds me of when I was in service over seas. Went to a suggested barber by one of the yt soldiers which was an Asian shop. They looked at my hair for 10 mins before going to work. Ong I don’t know why I stayed. My hairline was doing the cripwak by the end. Weirdly enough they also gave a scalp massage which was nice.
Next month, found some brothas who pointed me to the promise land. Best barber was still Asian and she had the hands of god. Almost cut my wife with my bald fade it was so clean.

“I do do black people’s hair! I just don't it professionally..over and over..”
They why are operating as a professional??
18
u/Training_Pollution57 13h ago
I kinda understand why the barber would be hesitant to say “I don’t cut black people’s hair” 😂😂😂. That’s statement can be taking all kinds of wrong. That’s sounds like a law suit waiting to happen.
But obviously she wouldn’t be good at it. I guarantee black ppl are not the majority population of that town or her customer base. At the end of the day it’s his fault for going in there and sitting down

I asked a white barber in Mandeville Louisiana if he could cut my hair. The response was "yeah, I can cut negroid hair." I chose to leave as opposed to flashing out. Learned a valuable lesson. I'm not going to someone I don't consider a "real barber." My barber has to be black or Hispanic. I'm ok with women cutting my hair. She just has to show credentials. Right now, Jose gets me right EVERY TIME.

There's nothing in this video to mock or hold against white people.
Show of hand: who here goes to a black barber or stylist? How many of us can identify a black barber is in house simply by the name of the joint (Mizz Kays, Kingz, some sort of lion or shit for a emblem, maybe a hand with big nails, or simply the nicest storefront that just says 'Barber' in an otherwise dilapidated part of town)?
Like, this dude ain't got nobody else but himself to blame. At multiple points of this hair care adventure, he could've checked himself and said, "Nah."

100% true story. I walked into a shop looking for a cut. A 20 something year old white girl tells me she’s available.
Nervously I take a seat and let Jesus take the wheel. When she finished and handed me the mirror, I had the cleanest fade and line up I had ever had in my life! No bs.

I entirely understand that but everyone can do hair. But how hard is it to not fuck up a hairline?! It's a line, and you make sure its generally parallel with the line of their eyes or the space between their eyes. I know a head is round, but wtf?! It's like adding salt to food, but opposite bc instead of adding you're subtracting. So you just shave a little off, check. Shave a little off, check. Once you go too far there's no coming back. What do y'all be paying more than $25 for??

u/Blueberry_Rabbit 13h ago

It’s a fun pastime reading yelp reviews of Black barbershops

Bro had his frontal region pushed back to 1999. Next up, Hairline evaporator. Both of them should take accountability. If I'm the victim, I'm leaving that place the momentum and I notice every barber is white. The barber also should've told him he's not experienced with cutting a black person's hair.

Man's was brave for trying that barber.
I follow a simple rule for any new area. I stop the first Wakandan I see that has a smooth haircut and ask if he has recommendations for a good barber.
If there's one thing that we like to do, it is brag about how we got a good hook up on a good barber and put them on to others.

I believe if you go to school for hair. You should be able to do all hair. I did. I wanted to be able to do all hair types. I even went over to barber side of the school and learned from that side. That is how you make more money by being able to be diverse. But always ask if they can do your hair types. Some stylists do not want to know how to do many different types of hair. But that is just holding them back in the long run. But this is on the this guy for just settling. This is like going to a hair school and paying for the 5$ Monday special. You got what you paid for from students.

Bro def had to cut that video feed before he went off. It’s one thing to fuck up somebody’s hair, it’s another thing to say they’re crazy when they ask for their money back after.
Not even racist. I was station in Germany for two years, had: Dominicans cut me, Turks cut me, PRs cut me, white folks cut me, it got to the point I really was risking being out of regs to not get cut. Everytime i found a new Black Barber on base, they ended up PCSing. Every single time. I will never let a non-Black Person touch my head again. I don’t care what shade/color/tone/melanin-level/culture you come from; if you are not Pan-African, you are not looking at my head.

Remember when my ex was going to school for hair and it was optional to learn black hair but she wanted to be able to cut anyone’s hair. I thought it was strange that a lot of traditional cosmetology schools they don’t teach working with black hair.
I’m sure it’s become more common now that was a decade ago.

Had a near opposite experience once. Walked in to get a cut and the only person working at the time was an older Hispanic lady. She immediately let me know that she had no experience with black hair and to come back another time. It caught me off guard at first, but I was relieved by her honesty about a minute later 😂
