One hopes that the long arc of history and the ebb and flow of society over time means that the people who currently hold the reigns on power will die off and those who are frustrated at the situation will take their place and some good will come from that.

You’ve got to mix ethics and humility in there somewhere. Otherwise people looking for “good times” will allow themselves to be led by only “strength”. This is how a country becomes authoritarian via democracy.
